My rabbit Hazel-Grace is one of my breeding does, she has always done great. Her babies are 3 weeks old. Before she was fat, I put her on a diet about two months before I bred her, because of the whole thing where if there is a lot of fat on the uterus, but she was still on the heavier side about a couple of pounds overweight I'd say. Here in the past week, she has dropped a lot of weight, I can see her spine and feel her hips. She was getting 2 cups of pellets and free fed hay during the winter, I cut her down to 1 cup 2 months before she was bred and now she is on free feeding due to having babies, I also give her 1/8 cup of oats every night for making milk, she has a litter of 6. The babies are very small compared to my other litter who was born on the same day. Hazel is 3 years old and is a Rex/Mini Rex mix. Do you think that it is just because of her age and shouldn't be bred anymore or maybe an underlying cause? She has not been anywhere besides in a playpen in my yard. Also, idk if this has anything to do with any of it but we have been finding wild baby bunnies just lying around the yard and we don't know why they died, no predator marks or anything.

Hopefully, there's No Fault in Her Stars! With my elder buns, I put them back on some Alfalfa to put weight back on. May be time to stop breeding, but I'd take her to the vet to make sure there is no other internal problems. I've had a couple start losing weight and it really wasn't good.

If your rabbits are on the ground any then you should check for worms.

If you have any calf manna you could give her a little bit, top dressed, with her pellets. Don’t let the kits eat it though.

I gave her some when I checked on her. I will check for worms when I get home. If she does have them are the others at risk, and also my dog was underneath the cages and ate some of the poop would she be at risk?

My first thought was also some sort of worm or parasite. The kits might be at risk, too... don't moms feed some of their cecals to their kits? I don't know whether worms would also be in cecal poop...

Yes they do, I won't get my check until next week. but she has gained a little weight with the calf manna. I will make an appointment at the vet for them and hopefully, he will just send me home with some dewormer.

You can also get rabbit safe dewormer from feed stores. Posting from my phone... I don't know offhand what you would be looking for specifically. I don't remember if ivermectin works on internal parasites...

If you have a little cash now, just not enough for the vet, you might ask in the breeder section about what dewormer to get and if it's okay to treat her while she's nursing. Breeders would go broke taking every rabbit they have to the vet in the event of a parasite/flea/mite outbreak, so they tend to be very knowledgeable about DIY treatment. You may still end up needing the vet if we're wrong about the worms, but I thought I would mention the option.

Yeah, I've had to put at least one down because the vet bill was going to be over $1,000 and I just couldn't do that so I went for the cheaper option and chose to put her down, plus she was on her 3rd strike with losing 3 litters so I was going to get rid of her anyway before she got hurt.

Poor bunny :( (and poor you! That's such a rough decision to have to make.) Binky free, little girl!
