Am i weird?

Hi guys. I just got my bunny teddy about 5 months ago and it seems like i knew him forever. Teddy is a mini lop rabbit and he is just the sweetest thing. He was just 12 weeks old when we got him from a hole-in-the-wall petshop. Now hes about to be 7 months on saturday! I love Teddy so much. I do EVERYTHING for him. I take him for walks(he dosent have a problem with it), make him homeade bunny treats, have photoshoots with him and things like that. But since Im doing all that ,my parents look at me and sometimes say things like"why are you making a RABBIT homeade treats" or they would just look at me like Im crazy. Ever since i had Teddy, my life changed. People dont appreciate rabbits the way that they should. They are really good pets once you get to know them.Teddy isnt my pet.............. hes family. So tell me, am i being a little EXTRA to Teddy. Please be honest.

Of course not! Since getting Bugs in June, I've been a happier person. I also feel he's not a pet. He's like my son. I refer to him as my son whenever I talk about him. He's my baby! Rabbits also give me something to talk about with people at school. My parents think I'm crazy. They say "Since when do people not put their rabbits in cages?" Mine is free roam and I love it. My parents, however, do not. I have a teacher that knows how passonite about bunnies, and today, he said when I walked into class "I thought of you last night." I felt honored until he showed what he meant. It was a picture of a (photoshopped) rabbit on a grill. He's a hunter. Us rabbit owners are truly a different kind of person. The unconditional love a rabbit gives us is greater than any other animal can even come close to showing.

You are not weird, myself I have one free roaming rabbit in the house. In the beginning my parents didn’t like having a rabbit in the house.

But everyone have warmed up to my bunnies, the free roaming rabbit often get good night kisses from my mom before she goes to bed while my dad sneakily gives food to him under the table.

Many people I meet and they found out I have rabbits, they often ask why a rabbits and not a cat or dog. They can’t understand why I own rabbits.

But I never regret buying my buns, because they always have great personalities[emoji4]

I want to free roam teddy, but im not allowed to do so. My parent dont want a free roam bunny in the house.They say that he should have no more than 4 hours out the cage! To me, thats a little bit of time! They say that I spoil Teddy to much.

Sorry, I forgot to specify that mine only has free range of my room. Would that be an option for you? I've found that it has made our bond way stronger than I could have ever imagined.

I cant! they wont let me. That would make me and him have a stronger bond, But I just cant. They say that he just cant. Maybe someday in the future.

They think that its wierd to have a RABBIT free roamed because they never thought that other people do that with thier rabbits

How to convince them?

Just wait and see if your parents will warm up to your bun.

You will never know, my parents was totally against having any animals in the house. Look at me now, I have 3 rabbits and my parents are thinking to get a dog [emoji23]

I moved out when I got my first rabbit and when I moved back home. I got the other two. Even though you don’t have him free roaming you can have a strong bond with your rabbit.

Two of my rabbits are outdoors and I have a strong bond with them. They are the bunnies I often have in the couch while watching a movie and I want to cuddle with some of my rabbits.

While the free roaming bun, he’s the baby that can never be still, but he give a lot of kisses instead, he’s not a cuddly rabbit.

So you can still have a strong bond with your sweetie [emoji5]

My parent love teddy SO much. They just think that its a little wierd to do all those things for a bunny.

It's considered "weird" by laypeople because in our society, rabbits are considered "lower" animals, and not housepets in the way that cats and dogs are regarded.

The purpose of this board, and people like us who understand and respect rabbits, is to slowly change society's incorrect view of rabbits.
