My recently adopted boy whom I've described in another thread, I have a question about him. Since before I adopted him he had severe ear mites and one ear flops downward due to the damage from scratching, could he be hard of hearing? All of my rabbits learned their names quite quickly but he doesn't. He doesn't respond when I talk either. So my question is, would a deaf rabbit still turn his ears as though he's listening to something? Would that be a natural behavior and he isn't really hearing anything?

Thank you for the link. I read the article immediately. So he probably is somewhat hard of hearing if not maybe even completely deaf. Since I'll never know for sure, I'll continue saying his name and talking to him as I do to everyone else. This little guy has been through a lot, hasn't he? I'm so grateful that he's home with us forever. Thanks again.

You can try other methods of getting his attention, like movement and vibration of the floor by stomping a foot when you approach(though that could also startle him). I'm glad he's found his way to a good home where he will be loved and cared for.
