Socialized?

Ok so i just bought a new rabbit thats only 6 weeks old she was born on febuary 10 and she's a type i liked she's half lionhead and half english angora i got her because i wanna breed her later on when she's old enough and so that my rabbit potato will be out more and he definately has he gives her bath's with his tongue sometimes but he's 3 times bigger and sometimes if he goes up to fast to her she runs from him i don't know if him chasing her sometimes is playing or something else could someone tell me why maybe?...also could someone put up some links that gives information on english angora's, lionheads, and holland lops?

Also does anyone think her name being luna goes well with what she is and looks like?

Unless she ends up being the same size or bigger than him please do not breed him to her.

I would only breed them if they do it themselves as long as they arent harmed

I think it is just because if he is bigger breed than she the kits will be also bigger in size and it can harm her. I am pretty sure they can do it themselves and they will but just think about how she will have to give birth to the giant babies it can kill her or be very painful at least.
I have lionhead male and lop female myself and lionhead is smaller than lop, even they are not fully grown but about the same age, so I'd suggest to keep them separately because you don't know until she's 6-8 months what will be her normal size and she can get pregnant when she's 3,5 months old so I wouldn't risk her life really. They are very cute, congratulations btw

We have another holland lop thats small too if she breeds with him im sure the babies would turn out small like she was but rn she is only 6 week so i have a while to wait still

PoopyPoo is right. You can't just let them breed "if they do it themselves." If the female is significantly smaller than the male, the kits will be too large for her to give birth. She and the kits will die.

So the female must be kept separate from the male until she is old enough for you to determine her size compared to the male. The male can't be significantly larger than her. It is fine if the female is significantly larger than the male. Not the other way.

Better to keep them away from each other to keep the kit safe. You can never know when your female will become hormonal and can become pregnant.

It would had been okay to let them jump around with each other if the buck was neutered.

Also you are thinking of breeding, are you thinking that you have the space to have kits later on, finding good home for them, if you can’t get the kits sold. Will you have the space to keep both males and does separate from each other and so on.

Breeding a rabbit comes with a lot of responsibility and time. Often it will not give a lot of money selling a kit [emoji5]

So it’s a lot to think about, also for the doe it come with a lot of risks to give birth. And you as the owner should have knowledge and be prepared, so you can keep both the kits and doe safe. For example if the doe turn up to die and you will have to handfeed the kits.

Well now just imagine if you will breed them I mean if they will do it themselves

Now female is 7 weeks old, she can (and most likely will) get pregnant when she is just 14 weeks so it will be in 7 weeks from today, that will be 14th of April, then add 31 day and she will give birth around 15th of May. Breeding age is very individual, maybe it will be 5 months for her, you will know when she will grow she will change and will act a bit like a teenager.

She can have six babies, maybe seven like here in this video



Cool! Now you have seven babies and two parents! Nine rabbits! And she can get pregnant again same day as she gave birth if you still keep them together so you can have another 7 babies next months when the first babies are still 4 weeks old. But most likely you will be forced to separate them as father is often not very nice with babies, so you will have to find him another cage.

Now, your little Luna will be taking care of them, hopefully, but you will have to assist, check a few times a day if she feeds them cleans them etc. When they are a few weeks old and will start eating pellets you will have to buy a lot of them, as well as hay, toilet pellets and fresh food for the parents, so get your wallet ready. Oh they will also poop and pee, all of them That will be a lot of poo! And you will have that until they are min 8 weeks, because they can't be sold before that they need to be with their mother until 8-10 weeks.

So, basically if she'd give birth around 15th May you will have two + babies for at least two months, until around 15th July. After that you can try finding them a new home, it's not so easy as you want them to go to a good loving home and not to people who are looking for young rabbits to feed their snakes or use as a bloody bait for training dogs. You don't want to give them to random people, right?

So you've got your summer sorted, you will stay home with nine rabbits will feed them, clean after them and hopefully they will all be healthy so you don't have to bring them to vet, otherwise it will cost you some extra.

But maybe you can leave them with your parents for a week and go camp with your friends, or maybe you can hire a pet sitter for your nine rabbits

Of course we don't know how many babies she will have, maybe seven like in the video, maybe just 3-4, or even one. You will know in a couple months, hopefully you will post some photos here too

I think you are misunderstanding. The baby girl can get pregnant before she is old enough to safely carry them. It is unsafe to allow her to get pregnant when she is too young. Both size and age are factors to consider here.

Hi, what age is your male? She's about 10-11 weeks now right? Do you keep them in the same cage or they are free roaming, how they are getting along, just wondering if male is trying to mate her or grooming or what's going on between them.
