Pears?

Can holland lop rabbits have a pear it i cut it into slices just the same way i cut apples into slices?

I've offered a slice of a pear to all the three of my rabbits a few days ago and they weren't impressed honestly, even Fred who is normally very enthusiastic about any food refused to eat it. I don't know maybe it was too soft or something.

I usually give my rabbits cold apples so they might like cold pears but idk ill try tho

It’s very sugary so only a tiny amount and not too often.

Pears are one of the things that are alright, in very small amounts. I used to give mine apple branches, pear branches and willow too--they would clear all the bark off first when the wood was green and then work at the wood next. They were all my trees so they hadn't been sprayed with anything.

We have a bag of pears we barely eat so ima use it for treats for my bunnies

You need to be really careful about giving your bunnies so much sugary foods. Your bunnies are still really young and too much sugars and starchy foods in their diet can sometimes cause digestive illness, which can be a very dangerous thing for rabbits. Fruit should only be given in a very limited amount, for fresh fruit it's less than a teaspoon per 2 lbs of body weight, and only if there are no signs of mushy poop or upset stomach.

Leafy greens like parsley, cilantro, red/green leaf lettuce would be better and healthier treats. Just make sure to introduce fruits and veggies into their diet properly, one at a time and starting with a small amount, and only gradually increasing the amount if there are no signs of digestive upset after a couple of days.

Like I said, "in very small amounts" or the sugar content will give a loose movement. Neither of our boys will eat banana or strawberry and a few have been very picky eaters--3 would not eat pellet at all.

Not to beat a dead horse, but just trying to be sure we're all on the same page. By "very small amount" we're talking about a single slice of a fruit. So a 1" slice (or less for little buns) of banana is the most a rabbit should get on a single day. If she gets a slice of banana, then she should not get any strawberry or apple or any other fruit that day.

Nope--thin enough to be almost transparent--I slice the apple or pear so it's only 1/4 of the actual fruit and about as thick as the knife blade, which is as thin as I can get it.

This morning I gave my bunny pear for the first time but Idk if she likes it

I wasn't disagreeing with you, Larry. The 1" slice refers just to banana. Anything else like apple or pear would be thin slice of course. Mostly making sure Yukishi was getting that idea since I was seeing terms like "have a pear," and "cold apples" and "bag of pears" and "bananas." That was sounding like a lot of fruit the way it was worded.

Right. Notice I didn't mention Banana. Mine get apple or pear and only once in the morning--they won't eat any other fruit, so after 4 plus years the banana and strawberries are "mine". Not criticizing and only speaking for me and mine.

I’ve given my little sunny bunny, Hazel, one “baby-safe” slice of pear, and she absolutely loved it! Haven’t given her any more since because fruit tends to attract ants in her little bunny condo

On occasion, I’ve given her a thin, flat frozen strawberry slice right from my fingertips....she devoured it the first time, but since, she’s only nibbled at it then kindly declines, so I don’t leave it in there (because of ants).

We’ve even tried offering her one blueberry...she sniffed and licked, but essentially wasn’t interested.

I guess that’s a good thing overall since they’re just treats. I’m finding that Hazel is a bit more selective than Bailey, our first bun, who ate just about anything, to her demise It’s been eight weeks since we lost Bailey....still miss her and think of her often.
