Hello,

I have a pregnant lion head/ Am. chinchilla.
I am not sure when she got pregnant. We went out of town and the person coming to feed them forgot to lock the door and Roger (my male) got to have a little fun. I have never had a pregnant bunny before, I was wondering if anyone was able to give advice on how to tell how far along she is. She has a tummy now. I can see them moving inside. She isn’t pulling fur yet or even nesting. She has made holes in her boxes though. (Which is new)

TIA

Gestation is 28-31 days. I would have a nestbox ready to give her when you see her start to gather hay. That could be anywhere from just before kindling to a week before.
Thank you!!

I can see her tummy move when she is laying down. Just last night she started “digging “ in the nest box I put in ( a cat Litter box with ripped up news paper, wash clothe, and hay) she moved some of the stuff around, but never gathered hay.

I have no way of knowing how far along she is. But she has been in my house away from the other bunnies since Jan. 23rd.

If you can see the babies kick/move, then she is around 5 days due from having them. Good luck and keep us updated!

Update!
She has been inside the house 28days today. She has been laying down most of the day and hasn’t ate much. I can still see “kits” moving inside as she is laying down. She has not grabbed hay or really messed with the nest box I put in. I’m using a carborad box filled with wash rags, hay, and shredded paper. Is that good enough???

If she’s inside hay is really all you need for the box. Some does don’t pull hair until just before kindling. If she doesn’t pull any by the time they’re born you can pull some from her tummy...it will come out pretty easy. You would put the hair both under the kits and over them to keep them warm.
