I have two females in the same cage a boy accidentally got in with them but we didn’t know when and we now have a litter of 8 Holland lop babies but we don’t know who the mom is. They are 2 weeks old. Do I leave both females in?

Hi, I keep my 4 breeding does in pairs, it was never a problem when there was a second doe around. Actually, they are great stepmoms. They need more space than single does, imho they should have the opportunity to go out of each others sight when they feel like it. The does also enjoy a somewhat higher shelf where they can escape the kits for another 1 or 2 weeks.

The floor of their cage is hay and they mom made a great big warm nest but the problem is the babies can burrow off and wander what would you recommend doing.

It's possible both does had kits. If you want to know who belongs to who, or if they're all from one doe, you need to watch when they're nursing. You could also turn the does over, because you should be able to tell which one(s) nursing. A nestbox is the only way to keep them from wandering, but I'm not sure how it would work out if there are kits from both does unless the box is big...we always kept our does separate when they had kits.

I think one of the small ones has nest box eye one eye is open and one is closed with mucus. I know they can get it if the box is in to long but it is only 2 weeks old. It is also smaller than all the others could that be because it might be from a different litter?

Hollands dont normally have 8 babies at a time so I think they both had a litter normally they only have between 2 and 4 each. And hollands only have 6 teats, unlike bigger breeds who have 8 to 12 teats.

They don’t necessarily get it because the box was in too long. Mostly likely a piece of hay scratched the eye. You would need to take the kit to a vet, who will probably give you some terramycin ointment to apply. Don’t let it go untreated or he could end up blind in that eye.
