In May we adopted a 12 week old male flemish as a companion for our 1 year old mostly american blue bunny (female/s). Since at least the second week we had hm, they have been in dog crates side by side and sharing out of cage space individually (In the morning, male bunny gets let out for a bit...can be anywhere from 30min-4 hours...) and female gets the run of the room from when he gets put back to when he gets let out again (8-12 hours) and then he gets 2-4 hours out before bed time.

Any way. They have been caged side by side since May, and taking turns sharing common space since then. He was neutered the end of August. We are now looking to allow them free time together.

I understand we shouldn't throw them together with out supervision, but how should we go about doing this? We are going to do a decent cleaning of the room and replace the peed on carpet pieces before we do a group out of cage, but is there anything else we should do?

"(female/s)" -- do you have more than one female? Is she (are they) spayed?

Ideally they need neutral space for doing introductions. That means that it should be somewhere other than where they've both been exercising separately. It should be someplace that neither rabbit has been before. (ie. common space is not neutral space)

It's not quite the end of September so has it been less than 4 weeks since the neuter? For some rabbits, it can take from 6-8 weeks for hormones to fully dissipate. It may be difficult to tell if they have dissipated. Hormones are one easy way to sabotage a potential bonding. You may want to consider holding off until that 6-8 weeks past neuter.

Here's more on bonding.

no, female/spayed. Sorry. that's how I''m used to notating "spayed" with dogs and cats. two is Definitely enough for us! will hold off a little longer then. give us time to come up with a safe neutral space too. That will be the hardest part in this house! Thanks!

Ah.. I see (re: s/spayed). Be sure to read up on the bonding process as well before actually getting started. A wrong move can set things back (or possibly prevent a bond).
