Too much poop

Hi, as all of you know I own two Angora rabbits Norman and Kiko and I noticed the past week that they have been pooping A LOT.
Like literally in a few hours the entire cage is full of poop even though they have a litter box they still poop outside too. The poop even reaches outside the cage.
I am forced to clean the litter box every two days because of this.
Like literally, there is a huge mountain of poop in the litter box and a mat of poop on the cage floor.

At this point, I am not sure if this is a normal thing it just started becoming too mich recently.

If its normal what should I do to reduce this problem. And if its not what should I do? Take them to the vet.

How big is your litter box? My rabbits started doing this as well once they outgrew their liter boxes.

I've heard said that a rabbit can produce well over 250 poos per day! Rabbits do poo alot! Thankfully those poos are pretty much odor free. If the poos are looking like normally formed, normal size poos, then it shouldn't be an issue. It is healthy for them to produce lots of poos.

What are their ages and gender? Some could also be territory marking -- especially if they are intact and/or hormones are kicking in.

I mean its not too big or too small. I didnt want to buy a really big litter box because I didnt wang the cage to be too crowded for them I want them to at least have some space to jump around.
This is the size of the litter box.
Not sure if its very clear. But see how much poop there is. And its smelly.

Mini rex brings up a good point too. Here is a good size litter box set up for either 1 or 2 rabbits.


Oh... I was posting this at the same time you posted your photo. It looks like your box is too small. You can see from my photo that both rabbits can easily fit in the box at the same time with room to spare. It should be that big.

You may want to consider getting an exercise pen to wrap the front of your cage to give them more permanent space. That way you can have a large enough box and still provide them romping room.

Oh thank god its normal!
But now I have an issue haha.
I have a male and a female.

They do fit there at the same time and there is space but maybe mine has more length than width. Maybe I should get one that is wider so that its not too crowded for them.

Nope not fixed and they are about 6 months old.

If you aren't intending them to breed, then they should be separated immediately. It takes seconds for them to breed.

Imho, your female bunny produces more poop because, most likely, she is pregnant. They eat a lot more then, also when they are nursing. Also, sometimes their litter box habits suffer then.

Since you don't know when she got knocked up I would seperate them right now - and there's even the slim chance that it didn't happen yet, getting smaller every hour.
If she gives birth, and the buck is still with her, she'll be pregnant again within one minute. There are some things in rabbit behaviour many are not too keen to know about...

My large meat breed rabbits normaly don't mature until they are 5 months, but I got a surprise litter once at that age, so I would prepare and read up on what bunny mamas need and hold the breath for one month, if there are no babies then you were lucky, but I wouldn't bet my money on it.

Just my thoughts about that...

It’s normal. I have a tiny 2lb lionhead that poops a ton and I have to vacuum her area at least everyday.

You need a bigger litter box for sure. And cleaning the litter box every 2 days seems normal with 2 bunnies and a small litter box.

And I know you didn’t say anything about this but it seems your change is too small for your buns.

These are the litterboxes I have always used for my rabbits and they have worked excellent for me.

If you get 1 poo box per adult bunny, it works out great.

Also, I clean my litter boxes every day, so that should be pretty normal. But I would still get a bigger litter box if I were you..

Bonded rabbits should be sharing a litter box. Those are very small litter boxes. Possibly might be ok with a small dwarf, but doesn't seem ideal for an average size rabbit. It isn't long enough or wide enough for one rabbit to lay out in fully outstretched. And no room for two to stretch out. Smaller boxes are associated with poor potty habits (and get smelly much quicker).

Maybe it's because your rabbits are outdoors and can potty out in the grass as well. But for rabbits confined indoors, they train more consistently if they have a big, roomy litter box.

Mine chill all the time on their poo box and seem comfortable on them, but if you got indoor buns it will definitely need to be cleaned every day or every other day

Rabbits are very prolific poopers. There was a study done at a college and they came up with 350 to 500 times a day for rabbits. They also did a fart count and say that the average human blasts 15 a day. They couldn't pay me enough to do either study. My rabbits are all singles and I clean their pan every day.

^^ Ha,ha! That's even more than the 250 I had heard! I certainly never took the initiative to count them myself!

Norman tried many times to breed with her but she kept running away. This happened like maybe last month and now I dont see him try again.
I dont know if it happened already or he stopped.
I do want them to breed I wanna see their babies.
