Does anyone else find hay everywhere in your house? It's like it just attaches itself to things and spreads! I just ran bun's blanket through the wash, and now there's hay in the washing machine too!

Yes haha hay is the bane of my life! All over my house and clothes!

Do you buy in bulk? I'm considering buying in bulk cause there's a feed store close to my house that sells it that way. I wonder how fast it would get stale though?

I don’t buy in bulk personally because I don’t have anywhere to store it, but I know there are some people on here who do. I suppose if you stored it properly you’d be okay :)

I buy in bulk and the box it comes in ( I use small pet select the box itself stores it great! it's nice and flat it comes in 5 or 10 lb) but as far as hay? YEAH! BUT my husband and I found a solution, we use one of those sweepers that the resturants use on flat carpets everyday, it it easy to use, and smooth rolling so no back breaking work. I use the carlisle brand one https://www.webstaurantstore.com/ca...LVnHesqq-feLlSw_7tVS8XU60Wlh-pLoaAtljEALw_wcB

TRUST ME it gets his hay, his wood chips, and the paper bedding, and it is easy to clean it, it dumps out This is a dream for his hay cause YEAH it gets everywhere.

Hay EVERYWHERE. I feel your pain. We just passed the first month of being bunny pets and have been experimenting with different types/sizes of hay. I figure the more economical it is, the less stingy I have to be with it. I have gone from 9 pound bags to a 50 pound bale and I have the biggest part sitting in the corner of my kitchen and the daily box next to his space in the living room. I still find hay in the bathroom, kids rooms, places bun has never even been. It's astounding. I got a brand new Bissel pet vac? HAHAHA they have no clue. I have a few things to tell Bissel about their "pet" vacs. Might work for dog hair, but doesn't even touch hay or poop pellets. :\

Thanks for the tip @colebunbun I know the exact sweeper you are referring to - we had one when I was a kid - and it's good to know that's a possible solution for all this mess! I love having our bun but wow I never even could have planned for the amount of mess. lol

Colebunbun do you have carpet? I have carpet where the pen is.

I heard of some people using shopvacs with good success. We have one in our office but it is quite bulky!

Thanks for the link, colebun. I had a similar one but not as heavy duty and it didn't last. I'll have to give that one a try!

I buy in bulk -- as in super bulk. It can last close to a year if kept dry and out of the sun.

This bale I keep covered under a tarp outside. I take some of it and put it in a large plastic container on my back porch. Usually one would need to drill some air holes but we don't need to since we live in the arid desert.

I use that 30 gallon tote to refill a 13 gallon kitchen trash can. It sounds complicated but really isn't. The 13 gallon can is kept in my laundry room, right around the corner from my rabbit cage for easy filling. The tiny portion taken from the corner of the bale (circled) filled the 30 gallon tote.

It may not look like it but the hay is so compressed that the 30 gallon tote below can fill that trash can about 5 times.

Wow! I think the bales at the feed store will look like that. You don’t have trouble with mice making their nest there or anything? Do you mind taking a pic of the hay and tarp setup? :D

The 2nd photo (with the red circle) pretty much shows it. If you look on the left side, you can see that the hay is sitting on a wood pallet so it's not directly on the ground. The plastic tarp is blue and is pulled aside behind the bale.

The pallet and hay bale is under a pavilion or ramada. Never had problems with mice. Don't know why. I'll email my son tomorrow (he tends to know that kind of nature stuff o_O).

yes we have carpet all throughout the house except for the bathroom and kitchen, all carpet, and we got the sweeper at cash and carry, but I fairly sure business costco would carry them too?

Hay and embroidery threads are just part of my daily fashion!!!! My outfit is not complete without some of each lol. Wouldn't have it any other way!
