GI stasis

My bunny was doin fine she is 3 months old
For couple of days weather became so hot in my country so we decided to put cookie's food in the fridge and started giving her cold food
Until we noticed something weird she started eating less and less everyday and her poops got fewer and smaller we decided to take her to the vet and he gave her some injections and told us are you feeding her cold food instantly after touching her stomach, and said she had stasis
So we paid more attention and after 3 days of treatment in vet she is doing better


But the question is: today she pooped around 90 pellets
Experienced people is this amount enough? Is she back to normal or she is still recovering

Your question makes perfect sense. As long as she is pooping and the poop continues to improve in size, consistency, and amount, it should be fine. It's not uncommon for it to take several days after a bout with GI stasis for the rabbits poop to get back to normal. If the poop continues to worsen and get smaller, you will need to see the vet again. A rabbit may need to continue to receive gut stimulants(eg. metoclopramide, cisapride) for several days to weeks after a bout with stasis, til the digestive tract is able to function normally on it's own again. If there continues to be a problem, there may be an underlying health issue occurring.

Some things to help rabbits when the weather is hot.
-keep in air conditioned room if you have it available
-cool tiles for the rabbit to lay on. You can put loose tiles in the freezer and change them out as needed.
-put out frozen water bottles or ice pods the rabbit can lay on or next to to help cool down
-have a fan blowing indirectly(not directly on the rabbit) for air circulation.
-mist the outside of the ears with cool water, making sure no water gets inside the ears.

Cold food won't necessarily cause a rabbit to develop digestive problems in every instance, except if the rabbit is extremely overheated, then it could possibly cause the gut to cramp. Similar to how you don't give a horse really cold water right after it has exercised and is really hot. You have to wait til the horse has cooled it's body temp down til it is safe to give cool water. If the horse is still hot it should only get tepid water. So I think the same could apply to a rabbit.

So even though it's possible the cold food could have contributed, it's more likely it was the hot weather itself that may have caused the stasis to occur. The heat will make a rabbit less active, which causes them to eat less, and that in turn will cause their digestive system to slow down, which can then cause GI stasis to set in. Continue to pay attention to your rabbits poop. Changes in poop can often be an early signal that there is some sort of health problem developing.

Tips for keeping bun cool. Now this is to prevent heat stress, not when a rabbit is already experiencing heat stroke.

Thank u so much thats helpful like the vet said when i called him today that as lomg as she ia eating and pooping no matter hiw much she ia doing fine
And ya clearly her poopa are bieng bigger and more to normal color and size but quantity is still fewer but iam glad thats okay
I thought we she is still in pain or suffering from stasis

And ya weirdly we kept a fan indirectly on during the hot weather days so iam not sure if she was really hot
We thought she was not
But we felt she kept sleeping longer we guessed its from the heat like us humans we feel tired in the hot days so maybe she didnt eat well and that caused stasis so possible

Altho she was never a hay fan and didnt eat but few bites per day and this can be what caused her stasis

Ya my question was that after the medicationa she did 90 poopa so is this normal ir is it less than normal and she is still suffering from stasis?

Yeah but you said that she is popping 90 pellets, how can you be sure she is pooping 90 pellets she may eat 90 but she didn't pass them all

Ohhh u misunderstood me i meant pellets not like in food
Poops are refered to as pellets
I meant she pooped 90 poop

I have never heard that term in life and I have had buns all my life and started breeding them when I was around 12😂

Hahahahah not sure if its a term but i read it in couple of sites dunno if its right :imstupid

Do you feed her greens like leafy green lettuce, and maybe a little bit of celery, those things add moisture to her diet and keep her hydrated. If you doesn't like hay you could try feeding her grass which is much like hay because it has lots of fiber and good for her digestive system.

Actually i do feed her spinach, parsley, a liitle of carrot and cucumber, basil.....
And becuz she doesnt like hay we bought alfalfa hay
She kinda liked but when we washed it with water and became a bit more moisturaized now she eats it all non stop
She is pooping alot but i wanna know are 90-100 poops per day enuf?
