During that short breeding season, when rabbits are "in heat", my one rabbit is very nasty. She doesn't let you pick her up easily, she thumps (she normally never thumps) and just isn't herself. Many people told me that I should get her spayed, but I am not sure if I want to put her through that surgery. What should I do??

Ok I was thinking about it. The vet said that I should only do it if I really couldn't handle it. I'm still not sure.... Anyone else?

Spaying will more than likely help mostly correct or eliminate that behaviour, it also has the benefit of greatly reducing the risk of reproductive cancers which are quite high in unspayed female rabbits.

Me personally, I would get it done.

My rabbits were so sweet and happier after spaying. The girls were pretty sweet before seem much happier after and all three handled the surgery well.

is your vet an exotic animals vet with rabbit experience? do not let a vet who only works with dogs and cats spay your bunny. they are not experienced. If he is an exotic animal vet I'm wondering why he is saying to only spay your rabbit if you feel you really have to. All websites I have read say that unless you are showing / breeding your rabbits you should have them spay or neutered because it's better for their health and temperament;.

I had all my buns altered at our local spay-neuter clinic that only advertises cats and dogs but I made sure the vet was experienced and knowledgeable with rabbits.

My vet is experienced in rabbits and most other animals. I was asking her about it, and she said that it isn't necessary, but will (like u said) make them happier all the time. I just wanted to see what people had to say, and some advice on what I should do.

We've lost a few of our rescue rabbits to uterine cancer when they weren't spayed at a younger age (We actually just lost a rabbit named Chinook last Monday, we got her in as fast as we could for a spay but the cancer had spread too much and she had to be PTS on the table). So many times we have rabbits come through that could have benefited from being spayed, it's something I would always recommend unless they have a health problem that puts them at too high of a risk for going under.

How old r your rabbits? If they r young, then please Do it sooner than later! I just lost on of my rabbits to cancer when spaying while she was 10 months old!
