Bunnies That Love to be Held

I know that I can't be the only one out here/there with a bun that begs to be picked up and snuggled. I keep seeing these post on Facepoop (especially tonight) stating that rabbits should not be picked up. I do understand that the majority of rabbits, Bun Jovi included, do not. I love her every bit as much and respect her preference to be a floor bunny, but I also believe that depending on the buns personality, and if starting at a young age the bunny is picked up appropriately, some will come to trust you completely.

My Barry is extremely imprinted on me. I brought him home at 8 weeks. He was a snuggler from the beginning. I was always mindful of his preference to be picked up or not. Always careful how I picked him up. Hand under hind feet and the other under the chest. He assumes the loaf position for me to scoop him up. He follows me all over the house and will stand up to put his paws on my legs meaning scoop me. When I do, I get kisses all over my chin, neck and face. If I'm at the computer desk, he wants up in my lap. His sweetness is unbelievable. I have never had a pet that was as sweet and cuddly and so smart.

I would like to hear stories from others with snugglers. I know you're out there.

Trix always wants her Daddy to snuggle her. She likes it when I hold her high in the air. She likes to be on my shoulder. It just depends on the rabbit.

Now that is some serious trust! Barry's not a shoulder bun, he's not big on heights, but he likes to be held up snug against mine. He's going to be neutered very soon. If it weren't for that "Bucky" smell, I probably wouldn't bother, but my husband won't tolerate the "Bucky" smell in the house LOL. After the neuter (which is required) he'll be therapy bun licensed.

We bonded on the ride home from the airport, where I was her protector. Then the Hooter's waitress and I (no joke!) checked on her every five minutes whilst my wife and her friends were eating. We're buddies, that's for certain.

My Franklin would come and lay his big head on your foot until you paid attention to him. He loved it when I would lay on the floor with him, throw an arm over him, and nap with his face in mine. He would jump on the couch and nap with me with his head tucked up under my chin or watch tv with me. He had a favorite show according to my dad. I dont know if he enjoyed being picked up per say but he never struggled and liked being pet. My dad was always picking him up and carrying him around when I deployed. He was going to be a therapy bun also before he got sick and died. Best rabbit I've ever had. Still miss him very much. Hard to find them like that. He was a french lop and they seem to be predisposed to that kind of behavior.

Aww I remember Franklin very well. Yours was one of the first blogs that I followed and kept up with at RO. I'm very sorry that you lost him. I can cry at the mere imagine. I've read that the large lops tend to be more "puppy doggish". Barry is an eLop so I'm sure that explains a lot of this. He's actually in my lap right now LOL getting his pets.

Serena, our Checkered Giant is a big lap bunny. Most of ours will come when called, but she'll climb up on you and lay down and she's that way with everyone except other bunnies!

Oh boy! Doesn't it seem to be mostly the large buns that love the snugs? This kid is still growing and soon I will run out of lap. :hearts

I'm so jealous Channahs. I really miss our snuggles. Just something very different about rabbit cuddles. I think it's the ears.

I think you're right about the ears. I love all of my animals, but there's just something different with the bunny's. Dogs can be gross, bunnies can do the same gross things as my dogs, but it's a much cuter gross LOL. Barry on his humpty bear makes me laugh, but a humpy weinie dog makes me gag.
I hope you another snuggle bun finds you. Once you've been loved by a bunny, there is just no going without.

I love petting Bandit's ears And you're right, everything that bunnies do is adorable. Dogs eating poop, disgusting. Bunny eating poop, still gross, but their little faces when they do it are still so darn cute!

I wish Bandit was a little more cuddly and a lot less destruction oriented, lol. He does enjoy being petted on my lap, but he doesn't actively seek out cuddles or enjoy being held.

One of the things Trix stopped doing but has recently continued is digging out her litter box exposing a clean place in the pan. I can't figure out the point of that. The funniest thing is that when I am trying to put her fresh water in her cage, that nose is under my hand. Then I get the "pick me up" look. I can put her on her back, on my shoulder, put her up in the air, and even have her resting on my forearm. I always rub under chin, so she never chins anything.

Ears are fun on a rabbit, for sure! She likes hers rubbed.

Now here's the kicker- Trix will not sit still for long on a lap. I can hold her for a long period, but sitting on a lap lasts for maybe three minutes MAX!!!

We got the first rex and went back fro the second who where raised in the same cage for 6-7 weeks 1 week later. The second rabbit is just now warming up to us the first was always pretty cuddly by rabbits standards at 1 ish years old

I hate this thread! *foot stomps* Y'all making me jealous. LOL

Never had a lap bunny. Rosebun was my smoochy boy, but once he got older he wouldn't let me have him in my lap any more. Sasha's too busy barreling around to sit still anywhere, and she hates it when bubs tries to make her stay on him. Merlin's just been bad to the bone from birth. He wouldn't even stay on the table he was on when I first went to see his litter! Jumped right off. It was only by sheer luck that he didn't die horribly and I managed to catch the bugger. And then I took him home. Boy I'm dense.

But we love them all the same right! Even if Barry weren't a cuddle bun, I'd still be insanely in love with him. He won't let me put him on his back, that's a no go, and I can't seem to get a look at his mouth. I reallllly want to look at his bunny leeps, but he's always moving. I do occasionally get to kiss them, but that's not actually seeing them.

I'm feeling a little paranoid though these days. It has become apparent that Barry will absolutely need to be neutered. I thought that because his habits weren't so bad that I might be able to keep him intact, but I kinda worry about those things....he's a free range bunny, what if he gets them caught on something?! I know you've seen that picture of the squirrel...and his Bucky pee smell ...twice I've been sprayed, he won't let me clean his litterbox, jumps in it and covers it up to keep me out! Last, but not least, he has worn out his humpty bear and sometimes I misinterpret his requests to cuddle, that's not what he wants. I just have dread. I've read horror stories of bunnies that lose their cuddly after the snip snip...

I have 4 buns, a larger pair that tolerate strokes but hate being picked up and a mini lop pair the boy of which is definitely a cuddle bun!

If I bring him onto the sofa for cuddles he actually jumps into my lap and snuggles down like a cat would. If I want to take a sip of my coffee I literally have to put him down and stand up while I drink it otherwise he will jump up at me and knock my drink. If I put him down on the floor to play he will hop over to me and jump up at me. He really loves a cuddle and will sit for as long as you stroke him. It's amazing he is like this really as he had a crummy start, he was already 3 when I got him and he had just been used for breeding and had all sorts of issues (lice, sore hocks, etc) that the vet said would indicate he had been left sitting in a filthy hutch, obviously not a loving environment so by rights he should hate humans!

I did get him a girlfriend recently as I hate the thought of a bunny being alone in their hutch and obviously to do that I had to have him neutered, didn't change him one little bit as far as his affectionate nature is concerned, just stopped him trying to mount everything!

I have to say, we love all four but he is a favourite.
