So, several weeks ago I took home a baby rabbit dumped at the sanctuary I worked at, only for her to suddenly die after a week. Having her made me realize I utterly miss having a rabbit, so I decided after her death that I would look for a planned rabbit this time. I got into contact with a few breeders in my area and found this woman who owned a smaller rabbitry, but I got good vibes from her. I wasn't planning on a rabbit until later this year or so, but the breeder about three weeks ago told me she had a current litter of lops that would be ready to go in about two weeks and if I had any interest in seeing them. She lives about an hour from me but I decided to go see them, just to check out her rabbitry and look at her rabbits and see if I thought they looked healthy and things seemed to check out.

I went on Monday and she showed me around, then showed me the litter of holland lops she had told me about. They were weaned already but mama was with them and mama appeared healthy and very friendly, and their were three females that I saw right away. They were of course very cute, but I was still feeling like I didn't want to take one home that day and just wait until the breeders next litter...that was, until suddenly this little head popped out from this house in the cage. He was the only boy in the litter, and I don't now what it was about him, but I was in love instantly. So needless to say...I took him home lol.

I named him Squirtle, and he is quite a big boy lol. He is twice the size of his sisters, and at only 7 weeks he is half the size of his mom. So far he seems to be doing really well, but after what happened to my last little baby I have been a worry wart over every little thing he does. He is very very active and loves doing bunny flops to where he's almost lying on his back haha. He hates me touching him though, if he even thinks I might pick him up or pet him he gets as far away from me as he can, but if I just sit on the bed with him he's more then willing to come over and sniff me...as long as I don't move. Not sure if that's a holland lop attitude or if perhaps he's just not used to me yet, but he sure if fun to watch and he's doing really well with his litter box training so far.

Here he is!

Squirtle is so cute. He will settle down and get less afraid of you in time! This is a big new world for him still.

Oh gosh, he is adorable! I'm sure over time he will settle down and get more comfortable around you. :)

So cute!!! Make sure u don't feed him lots of fruits and veggies, if u do do like a small amount every 3 or so days, until they are like 5 and a half months old. Then u can start feeding it to them daily. Remember over feeding is just as bad as under feeding.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I had a rabbit die on me in May and it broke my heart. I rescued her and thought she had pulled through the illness but I was wrong. So I know what you are going through. However, your new little Lop, (I have 2 now) I beautiful!!! What a cutie!! Please keep us posted with pictures..

Good luck with the new bun!!!

Give him a bit of time to get used to you. He's gone from Mommy to new mommy, you. With my rescue lops I have just only been able to pick up Lady after rescuing her in November. I think your little guy is just skittish. I think you are taking the right approach. Let him come to you and get used to you. In short time you will be able to comfortably pick him up without him getting scared! What a cutie!! More pictures please!!

Vanessa

Do you have pictures of his mother?

Aww I see what you are talking about. I feel in love with him when I looked at his picture!!!!! He's soooooo cute. Love his spot in his nose!!
