Hi all! So far I'm finding your forum lots of help so thanks heaps!

We have an 8 week old mini dwarf lop & we've been trying to toilet train her consistently for about 3.5 days now & I just have a couple of questions.

I'll up load a pic of her hutch. It's tiny as she only sleeps in there & most of the day is inside.

She has picked a poop corner in the kitchen :-/ not ideal but the kitchen has floor boards so easy to clean up.

I've put a towel down & litter box on top. Already most of the time she uses the litter box. But it's like she jumps out before she finishes.

Pile of poop in the box & leaves a trail after she gets out. Sometimes she poops right NEXT to the box too.

Will she eventually stop doing this & get all of her business in the litter box? She still does the occasional poo all over too. If I open the kitchen door & let her roam around the house there is poop everywhere!

Will I ever be able to let her roam the house while doing all of her business in the box?

I can't put a box I her cage due to the size.

Experienced bunny owners advice please :) ImageUploadedByRabbit Forum1396675554.524232.jpg

Hi there :) It sounds like she is doing very well so far with litter training, which is great. It's only been a short amount of time so just keep persisting. When a rabbit is introduced to a new environment they tend to leave poops lying around as a way to mark their territory, so when you're letting her into different parts of the house, it's likely she's just marking it as her space. It should decrease with time, but with a rabbit, you will always find the odd poo or two lying around, but out of 3-500 a day, a couple of poops really isn't so bad ;) It very much sounds like she's on the right track and if you keep up with it, you will definitely see more improvement.

You will probably always find a few stray poops around the box too, as sometimes they can accidentally flick them out with their feet when jumping in and out.

If you're not already doing it, you should put food within access of the litter tray. Bunnies like to potty while they eat. :)

Give it some more time...8 weeks is so young. :) Keep on doing what you're doing (along with adding some hay) and you should get some good results. BTW, many rabbits are never fully trained until after they are neutered/spayed.

I agree with the others.
Have some hay where you want her to go, as they eat while they poop.
Also bear in mind that until she's neutered it's hard to get them to be litter trained. :)
