Bonding: Neutered Male to Unaltered Female?

I am hoping to get my Holland Lop, Murphy, neutered soon. And am wondering if it is possible to bond him to my unaltered Female, Chive.

I know it might take a lot of work, but I am willing to give it a shot if it can be done.

You would have A MUCH better chance if they were both fixed. BTW, males can still be fertile for many weeks after being neutered, so be careful if you do introduce them that you wait.

It really depends on the rabbits. Some females are quite hormonal, so bonding can be out of the question until they are spayed. Others are more mellow, so it's not as much of an issue. You do have to make sure you give enough time for him to be fully sterile before putting them together to prevent breeding.

I did have Amelia with Korr before she was spayed. She was a bit hormonal, but mostly in a humping way. It wasn't enough to be a big problem, but he wasn't too impressed when she got in a humpy mood. About 3 weeks after getting spayed, that pretty much went away, but there was a bit of humping from both of them afterwards.

I would say that if you are going to get her spayed, better do it before you bond them. The vet visits, surgery and being apart can upset a bond (I was lucky with Korr and Amelia, the got right back together once she was cleared by the vet).

When I get Murphy fixed, I will probably keep them separated for a few months, as I did know that he can still be fertile for a while after a neutering. I was hoping to avoid getting her fixed, as she has a sensitivity to anesthesia.... and could possibly not make it through the surgery. She was supposed to be an only Bunny, but when my sister's rabbit died Murphy seemed really depressed and no on was really paying attention to him. So I took him home.

I think I will get Murphy fixed, and go from there. If the bonding doesn't work, they can just go back to living separately. But hopefully in the same room!
