How do vets by you charge--especially for 2nd-opinion visits?

I'm very curious to know how vets by you charge in two scenarios:

1) If you use two vet clinics for your rabbit's care, does either clinic charge more if it knows (or suspects) that you've gone to the other one to have your rabbit examined for the same issue? (Does that make sense?)

2) If you tell one clinic that you want to bring your rabbit in for a second-opinion exam, do you get charged more because the vet claims to need more time to review records sent from the first clinic?

Thank you,

Jenk

I have no experience with this, but I shouldn't think they would, they should simply be charging the amount for a standard consult. After all, if your animal has a pre-existing condition that you've been to that clinic about before, and you take your pet back, they need to review the records then to see how things were, to compare them to how they are now.

You could always ring and ask too :)

I live in Idaho, and none of the vets in my town do. Here it's about 45$ for a checkup, and probably extra for whatever other needs the bun has :)

I'm starting to get the feeling that just one vet clinic semi-near my home is raking people over the coals by charging an extra fee whenever they know another vet has last examined the rabbit. And from what people are telling me, that seems like a ridiculous excuse just to make an extra buck.

I've been told the clinic's "reason" for charging more is because the vet needs extra time to review any records and possibly take more time during the exam. But here's where the lie comes in: I once got charged the extra fee even though there were no records to review, and my rabbit received a regular-length exam.

I do believe that I'm done there. Too many games seem to go on at that clinic's discretion.

I'd have to say I agree with you. That place just kind of sounds ridiculous. I've never heard of a vet doing that before, and I've tried plenty of different places.

I"ve never been charged an extra fee when I've seen another vet. I've changed vets with my rabbit and only paid the regular "exotic pet" fee even with the old clinic faxing over his records. I've also seen 3 vets for my dog over the years and never had that extra fee with him either. Sounds like a scam for extra money.
