Is there such thing as a low cost spay/neuter for rabbits? I am in New York & looking but can't seem to find any.

Where in NY are you? Upstate, downstate, NYC? Where have you looked so far?

Some animal shelters have programs they offer if you call around. Often a cost-effective option is to talk to rabbit rescues in your area and find out who they use because chances are they're both high quality and low-cost.

^

That's absolutely a good way to go if you've got any rescues in your area, for precisely those reasons.

In our area you can only get low cost neuter if you live in that county and are low enough income. The vets shelters use are not at all experienced with neutering exotics like rabbits. Reason even my pet rabbits are intact. I'd have to pay the experienced exotics vet who is the most expensive in the area. All the lower cost clinics we use for basic stuff have started refusing rabbit neutering.

Technically the word neuter includes both genders (check any dictionary) so spay neuter is saying the same thing twice. Spay is only for females. Castration (gelding in horses) is only for males. Piece of odd trivia that bothers me sometimes.

Keep in mind, a rabbit rescue isn't the same as a generic animal shelter ;). Many shelters don't even take in bunnies, or if they do, they deal with very few. A rabbit rescue is a place that's specific to bunnies and, like shelters, they'd get rabbits fixed before placing them in "forever homes". Because they bring in new rabbits (and therefore need to get them fixed) on a regular basis, whatever vet they use for the surgeries will have a lot of rabbit-specific experience just from taking care of the rescue's bunnies.
