Where can i buy whole oats?!

i bought small bag of whole oats from Rens pet depot a long time ago and it lased me forever...i just went back to get more but now they only sell the 50lb bags. I cant find anywhere else that sells whole oats..only rolled oats.

You can get whole oats by the pound at most feed stores. We use it to mix with pellets when we have rabbits who need to lose some weight.

Rolled oats are different from whole oats.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but Rabbit Rescue is selling little baggies of oat groats for $1.00 each-- I bought one from them months ago and I still have more than half left!

They are also located in Ontario so I can't imagine the shipping would be too steep-- if it looks like it's really high, you can email the store and they will calculate the shipping manually for you (my shipping turned out to cost half of what the site estimated!). They're really nice and their profits go towards their organization which I think is great!

just curious why on earth you would want to purchase oats... they are one of the worst things you can feed a rabbit! or is this for a horse? Few things will likely end up causing GI stasis better than feeding rabbits grains like rolled oats (though surprisingly not always... just like smoking does not always cause cancer in people). Please be careful and think about what you a feeding your rabbits! Saying your rabbit has eaten them before without any problems is like saying you haven't crashed yet from texting while driving... it's just not a good idea.

Some people feed oats to rabbits for them to gain weight. Personally I would not feed oats to a rabbit, I would feed them a quality pellet that is suited for them to get them to gain weight and once they kept that weight on for awhile then wean them off pellets and feed hay and water, some veggies as well.

If a rabbit is truly in need of gaining weight there is possibly something wrong with it or its diet. Though I am not a fan of feeding rabbits pellets, they are a far safer way to have a rabbit gain weight than feeding it something that's actually harmful for it. I agree with the last poster on his/her suggestion.

My rabbit doesn't need to gain weight, but I've read in several places that it can be given sparingly as a treat like you might with carrots or certain fruit (here is one such page). I pretty much just give him a pinch of it once in a while, it's never a regular part of his diet.

I have to respectfully disagree with oats being dangerous for rabbits. It's used by a lot of breeders, and given sparingly and not constantly. When those who've been doing this for over 40 years have sworn by it for certain purposes I tend to believe they would not continue to recommend it if they ever had problems. Typically, pet rabbits wouldn't need or get oats.

Would Quaker Oats be okay to feed?

My rabbits love oats and I have fed them for years...never had a problem. Oats of all kinds. crimped, whole, or rolled.

Quaker oats are fine, but the cheapest you will probably find whole oats is at a local farm/feed store. I get mine from TSC (tractor supply) and usually get the crimped oats. You can get a huge horse sized bag that will last you forever, and will end up being a lot cheaper than quaker oats.

Oats are actually good from clearing up poop problems.
