I rescued a collie puppy a few weeks ago, he was failure to thrive since birth, underweight, weak. found out yesterday via ultrasound that he has a stricture in his small intestines. congenital. pgh. vets wanted over $5000 to perform bowel resection surgery. called my vet to let him know results of ultrasound. he volunteered to do the surgery and bring a colleague in to assist today. my favorite vet tech came in on her off day to help also. feeling blessed!!

What a wonderful vet! You are blessed! Will be praying for your collie, Sheldon & his surgery.

name him quick and you wont have anything to worry about. Best wishes. Special thank yous to your vet team for the help as well. There's still some good people left in the world

baby sheldon made it out of surgery! omg! the sweet little thing!!! just waking up now! can go see him just for a minute soon!!! my vet saved my little man!!! I'm going to start a fundraiser soon to buy my vet an ultrasound machine for the new office!!! I cant believe pgh. vets charged over $500 for an ultrasound yesterday!! if my vet had one he could of did all the testing and the puppy could of had surgery yesterday and saved money and 9 hours of travel and wait time!!!! thank you for all the prayers!!! love u guys!!!

:woohoo Great news! Thanks so much for the update! Give that vet a great big hug! Keep up the good healing, Sheldon! :jumpforjoy:

Glad to hear his surgery went well!
We recently had a vet talking to us that mentioned that when she was in school ultrasound was the hot new diagnostic tool and she never would have imagined that so many vets would just have one in their office.
That said, they do cost tens of thousands of dollars, and most of that is in the probe itself, so it's definitely not something every practice has.

Sheldon is home!!! playing already! tolerated 2 feedings!! just waiting on a bowel movement! hopefully all his little intestines are working fine now! He's such a tough little guy!! thanks for the support!!!

Hooray! Sounds like he is bouncing back fast! Hope all his health issues are behind him & with a little rest, good diet, & your love will have him a healthy, happy pup in no time!

That's a pretty standard price for ultrasound. Without going into details, I've had two Bernese Mountain Dogs and one cat ultrasounded (?) within the past year. Each time, it was $450, and I'm in the S.F. Bay Area.

The "all in one place" aspect is the real help, though. I wish you much success in your fund-raising endeavor; you'll help more people and their animals than you can imagine. :)

update on Sheldon!! His staples are out! he gained 1 pound 1 week after surgery. I have him in on a fresh diet with nature farmacy supplements. He is finally growing. I swear he gained 2 pounds the last 2 days! he is playing and running like a normal puppy finally!!! having so much fun with him!! the bunnies love him and he is super gentle with them!! He still has a lot of catching up to do!! His brothers are almost 25 lbs. and he was only 6.2 after surgery!!
