Hi everyone,
I posted in the general discussion recently about my Sammy's issue with a possible dental abscess and thinking about fundraising. I didn't get any feedback on it and ended up not starting a fundraiser.
Anywho- Sammy has a checkup this morning to see if the bump I found on his chin a little over a weeek ago is indeed an abscess or something (anything) easier to take care of. Sigh.
I have been a wreck since discovering it, as this is the 3rd time now he has had one (still hoping it's not!) and my poor baby does not do well under anesthesia. He seizures, stops breathing...all that horrible stuff no momma wants to hear over the phone.
The surgery would be tomorrow *if* it needs to take place. I feel so torn and so sad. This isn't fair for my sweet sweet boy. If it is an abscess- and they do grow SO quickly, then I know the best thing to do would be to remove it. But, I am so scared of losing my boy. I don't want him to leave this world scared and without his family. But, I also don't want him to be in pain, and he deserves to have this taken care of. Oh God, how I wish I could take his place for treatment. In a heartbeat. :tears2:
So I really am just looking for positive thoughts and vibes for my little man today and possibly tomorrow. Time to go see what the vet thinks...:in tears:

Praying all goes well for Sammy's vet visit & no surgery is needed. Hope you have some good news soon! Bunny hugs to you & Sammy.

Update-
Upon exam, the vet thought the new bump (which was not there a month ago) was too hard to be an abscess, so no surgery tomorrow. Yay!
Unfortunately, since we don't know what it is, he'll be getting a CT scan next Friday (their earliest opening) followed potentially by surgery or maybe tooth trimming since he does have some overgrown molars thanks to the previous abscess surgeries and tooth extractions.
I am happy to have him home, and cautiously optimistic things will work out. I'm hoping whatever caused this hard bump is an easy fix. The vet seemed thrown off by the hardness of the bump, but I don't know if that is just because she hasn't cared for him before abscess removal in the past, or what. The vet that performed it last time is gone for several weeks. That is the bummer thing about this hospital- the vets are on various rotations, so consistency is difficult.
But, my boy is home and this momma is happy to have him home! Thank you everyone for the encouragement! I'll be sure to update next week with CT stuff.

Alright, today is the day. I have NOT been looking forward to this, and actually trying to rationalize my way out of it.
I drop Sammy off here soon (btwn 7:30 & 8 my time), his CT is at 11, I believe. Then, if they need to perform a dental procedure that will be at about 1pm, I believe.
Today is going to suck. I am so nervous and scared for my little man! I hope this is the right thing to do. I would be so upset if something happened and he was without his family. This rabbit means so so much to me. :'(

Best wishes for the both of you, the scan should be a fairly simple thing I think. Just do your best to get through the day, and I'm sure if you wanted to, the vet would be fine with you ringing at any point in time, just to see how he's doing to put your mind at ease :)

Sending you good vibes and lots of bunny hugs and hope everything goes well for him. :bunnyhug:

Sammy is back home now! The CT showed the bump on his bottom left jaw was actually not a whole lot bigger than last time (yay!) and the right side, where he he has had his previous abscesses looks so much better.
Now, the vet does want him back in about a month for a tooth trim since a bunch of his molars are a bit long. She was thinking we could stop penicillin and see if anything happens "since he is going to need to come back for a tooth trim anyway". I, however, did not feel quite the same. He has been on pen g since his last abscess a year ago. And while we aren't sure the penicillin is what kept it away,I don't want to risk another abscess coming back and putting him through that. A tooth trim is much less stressful for him than surgery into the bottom of his face. And the vet was totally supportive of that, so I got a refill and here we are.
He was still a bit groggy after coming home, but everyone is relieved he is back. My little man is home!

Yay, it's good to hear that things were better than feared. Hope it continues to improve.
