    Hurt hind leg…HELP!

We had our rabbit come back from the vet with a completely floppy hind leg, which we assumed to be paralysed. We never got an answer but we assume he’d been dropped or injured at the hospital. Over the next few weeks he gradually made a full recovery. I’d give him metacam regularly for a while...

Dental surgery… long term care advice (RIP)

One more thing, I re-read your post and off Fiona is still alive and strong enough to fight on then I would highly recommend getting on an urgent course of injected antibiotics immediately, as JBun suggests. We use penicillin twice a day but I know in the states they use bicillin with less...

Dental surgery… long term care advice (RIP)

I’m really sad to hear Fiona didn’t make it - or at least that’s how it sounded in your post. I just saw this and was going to reply because we have been dealing with this exact situation for a couple of years now with a young Lionhead of about 3.5 years. He had major genetic dental disease...

    Hair buster

The hair buster is expensive and initially I thought it was wasted money because Simba hated it and wouldn’t let me use it, but with patience he’s accepted it once a day and now it’s a game changer for us. he has to be in the right mood because it pulls and tugs the hair a bit, but since we got...

    thoughts on lennon the bunny

I don't think anyone should ever 'get rid' of their rabbits, but to be honest fewer people buying rabbits is probably a good thing, unless they're fully educated and prepared to make changes and sacrifices to accomot a rabbit, and not just initially but over a period of many years. I'm not...

Help! What is this in Simba's poo? (Graphic?)

I sent the photos and a video to the vet and they said that it's mucous, which is really weird as it doesn't look like it! Since those photos though Simba's poos and appetite have improved, and he's looking much happier. Another close call!

Help! What is this in Simba's poo? (Graphic?)

Hoping somebody cnñan help as I'm at a loss. Simba has had a horrible bout of stasis or bloat over the last 36 hours, and this morning, after intensive feeding and treatment at home, he started pooing again, but the first ones were horrible with what looks like colon lining or something. It was...

Floppy paralysed foot - Help and advice Please!!

Thank you, well it's become another example of Simba's remarkable powers of recovery. After about 2 weeks we noticed he was hoping around perfectly well and even running to get his treats, but he still couldnt lift his foot up to scratch his ears. It's now over 3 weeks since his problem and he...

    Dutchess overgrown molars

Sounds like you're on top of things! Two things I'd be concerned about are making sure the tooth roots don't get too long and grow backwards I to the skull, that can be achieved by keeping the teeth short either by having the vet grind them down, or by Dutchess' eating a good quantity of hay...

Floppy paralysed foot - Help and advice Please!!

I don't think it's arthritis as it came on very suddenly when he was in the care of the hospital for a few days with a very bad case of GI stasis. I'm beginning to suspect that something happened while he was there which caused him an injury. He's just about 3, so that would be very early for...

    Dutchess overgrown molars

For reference, this is how poor Simba's first x-rays looked. You can see how messed up his teeth are, and how they were growing into his eye socket and down into his jaw. The prognosis was very negative at first but over 2 years later he's still with us and as bossy as ever!

    Dutchess overgrown molars

Basically Simba's problem was misaligned teeth due to a genetic abnormality, which is quite common in lionheads due to their breeding for short cute faces. At first his eye was bulging out which is how we discovered the problem and since then he's had all his upper molars removed, leaving the...

Floppy paralysed foot - Help and advice Please!!

Thanks for replying! Yes they took x-rays of both his hind legs to compare, and couldn't see anything unusual in his affected right foot. We haven't had a scan of soft tissue yet, but that could be an option - an expensive option! He's on a low dose of metacam for the potential inflammation -...

Floppy paralysed foot - Help and advice Please!!

So our beloved lionhead Simba went into hospital last week with a blocked up tummy that we couldn't treat at home, and when we went to pick him up after 3 days at the hospital the vet told us that his right hind foot was now paralysed! It's the strangest thing - it's completely floppy and seems...

    Dutchess overgrown molars

We've been trimming down Simba's molars for over a year and it's become a key part of his welfare. We do it every 8 weeks. I'd highly advise getting an x-ray of Dutchess' skull to see if there's any abnormal tooth growth. If there are genetic problems it's really important to find out asap.
