    Deworming / Breeding Preparations

As it moves into the next month, I’ll be starting back up my breeding (late September, Early - Mid October). In plans of doing so, thought it would be good to do a round of dewormer just to be on the safe side, as my buns do make contact with the ground when exercising. I was curious as to what...

    Keeping cool in the Summer?

Hi all! Summer heat has just kicked in here, and I’ve been searching tirelessly for a lasting way to keep my buns cool in the summer heat. They’re all in 4.5 ft x 2 ft cages, one side of which is the nest box, and the other side, as well as the front is wire, so they get pretty good...

    Outdoor Rabbitry Tips

Bought some pine pellets so I look forward to trying those out! Also did an investigation, and upon closer look it seems to be wood lice. So I’m assuming the moisture in the wood is what’s drawing them towards it? Especially where the aspen bedding meets the wooden structure and where all the...

    Outdoor Rabbitry Tips

I may have to test out pine pellets and see for any improvement! As for the webbing, I’m not too sure if it is from them so much as I usually find them in the same area (though am unsure how related they could be). It may even be some sort of isopod rather than millipede, though I’ve only seen...

    Outdoor Rabbitry Tips

I’ll definitely give the distilled white vinegar a go! As for the wire floors, it was definitely a battle between going with them or using wood flooring! Though, ultimately wire won (granted, I do try to take precautions where I can so they do have resting areas like the nest box, as well as a...

    Outdoor Rabbitry Tips

Yes and no. My current hutches are wire bottom (16g that’s lined in a plastic coating to be a little less harsh on their hocks, in addition to their nest box which is solid flooring where the bedding is used), as I figured it would be more sanitary in the long run. I usually start them off with...

    Outdoor Rabbitry Tips

Hi all! I was wondering how everyone keeps pests away during the summer months? I recently built my first set of hutches (one wooden unit, three stacked cages, all 4 ft x 2 ft with a built in nest box). Due to the fact that it’s wooden it has been attracting most every creepy crawly in the...

    Genetic / Breeding Program Help

Just wanted to give an update to everyone! Babies are all doing well, and genders are official! 1 Black doe, and 3 bucks (1 black, 1 Himalayan, and 1 broken Himalayan)! I’ll be retaining the black doe and rebreeding her to the broken tort buck this coming fall (between October and December), as...

    Genetic / Breeding Program Help

That had completely slipped my mind! I’d figured the blacks might have been a lost cause due to being full color (Cch or Cchl), however you are correct! It would be a one up from using the sable doe, being that her extension gene is still unknown (though, depending on how the himmies turn out...

    Genetic / Breeding Program Help

I've recently been trying to tackle breeding sable points in Mini Rex (being that it's a very uncommon color in my area, yet one of my favorites). The closest I've come to finding one was a Sallander that was listed as a Sable Point (had chinchilla gene in pedigree; no sables at all). Being...

Mini Rex with no Rex fur?

That was my thoughts as well. Definitely don’t see myself repeating this cross again, but will probably be pairing her with more denser Mini Rex bucks from here on out.

Mini Rex with no Rex fur?

The top picture shows a comparison of him (left) and one of his littermates (right). The second image is of him, sharpened and brought the highlights forward to show that his whiskers are curly (usually a notable Rex trait). I’m not sure if it’s just poor conformation (lack of density; fur...

Mini Rex with no Rex fur?

I’ll be editing the original post + attaching images once I’m home. Edit; I also should not that the kit DOES have hair, but the fur is, seemingly, that of a regular rabbits’, rather than the short velvety Rex fur (despite both parents have rex fur).

Mini Rex with no Rex fur?

Recently bred my Sable Mini Rex doe to a BEW Mini Rex buck. Both of the parents do have rex fur, as well as their parents (BEWs parents were on site, and Sable came with a pedigree). She produced 7 kits (three Sable, four black). I’ll be attaching pictures later once I’m off work, but one kit in...

    New Mother Acting Strange

Gave her 1 tum crushed up and mixed with a few pellets in a syringe and belly massages, and watched over the next few hours (closest vet to us is two hours away, so wanted to be sure it was an emergency). Thankfully she’s now back on feed, and acting herself again!
