Just Rescued a Angora Doe from a horder

Great! Sounds like a happy ending to that story. I think Babygirl is probably a breed known as Jersey Wooly, which is a Dwarf rabbit with the Angora wool gene. I'm not arguing over what kind of rabbit she is, I'm just saying. Most 4H rabbit project kids can quote chapter and verse of rabbit...

Here is a site with Sallander rabbits where you can see the eye. http://www.normelstud.co.uk/6.html I hope that helps. Have a good day!

    your veiws on colonies

Having rabbits on the ground means exposure to parasites. Daniel Salatin of Polyface Farms pretty much gave up trying to raise commercial rabbits on the ground. Now he brings food to them. Rabbit colonies are very common in Europe, where the Domestic Rabbit is native. In USA we usually keep in...

    American Red Rabbit

Pam, When did you have the Americans with the steel in them? Breeders have been having a fun selecting out some really odd genes. Most all of our Blues can be traced to Indiana, and our Whites can be traced to Indiana or Canada. In Central Calif, I have not seen Giant Chinchilla, Blanc...

    American Red Rabbit

I don't know why more people haven't raised them in the past. I hope by shining the light on them we can get more people to work with them. They have already moved from #1 most rare in 2003 to #5 most rare in 2010. Keep watching them. Have a good day! Franco Rios

    Possible Angora, Angora Cross?

Yes, that's an Angora! I like black angora wool. I would let the wool grow out. French Angoras will have short hair on ears, face, and front legs. They usually have coats that be plucked at the molting period which could be every 3 to 6 months. Or you can shear it with scissors when the molt...

And Allen told me that it was a Blue American, just a poor color pick up on his cellphone camera. Have a good day!

    American Red Rabbit

It was a Thrianta cross. I got the info from Chris: "The kits were born red from day one just like the Thrianta that sired the litter. This is my project and has nothing to do with Jeremy's tort project. The agouti gene is already present in the American gene pool. I just tweaked and added...

    American Red Rabbit

(photo: Red, White, Blue American rabbits, photo by Allen Mesick used by permission) I saw a picture posted by Alan Messick on Facebook showing a Red, a White, and a Blue American from Chris Hemp displayed at Crescent City CA rabbit show. The American rabbit breed is one of the rarest in the...

    Rabbit Breeds

No Altex is a short hair (normal fur) rabbit. You might be thinking of Astrex? Have a good day!

What do you do re: pet homes for your culls?

I sold a number pets through pet stores. One store I provided pedigrees because many 4H youth would purchase rabbits there. A couple of times I heard from the pet store owner that rabbits we sent there had won blue ribbons at the fair! Have a good day!

    Pedigrees

In USA we are fixated on pedigrees. Other countries are less stringent on the paper trail, which drives USA breeders bonkers when importing rabbits from Europe. Rarely is there pedigrees to go with the imports. Even though some countries have laws regarding "stud books" for equine and cattle...
