    Does Your Rabbit...Tweet?

ha! At first I thought this meant actually making a noise of some sort. To that, I'd say Chestnut makes soft grunts sometimes when she's really happy! No twitter, and no facebook! My online time isn't unlimited, so I leave the fb to my husband.

What does your daily Rabbit Care Consist of?

I have one dutch rabbit: 8:30 or 9 am Chessie is awake and is rattling the cage to get her breakfast. I give her one scoop of pellets and a salad of greens with an apple wedge. -after feeding, I give her a large handful of hay and clean out the floor of her pen. I remove the litterbox for...

it is so hard to catch her!!

Definitely do positive reinforcement!! Chessie loves going to bed now because it means minutes of one-on-one cuddle time first. She races ahead of me to her den and does air flips and jumps. If it takes food treats, do that too!

    Captured a loose rabbit....

I have to post because we rescued our Chestnut and she is a black/white dutch too! We snatched her up from out of my parents yard. We did not post a "found" ad anywhere. My parents live in the country and she would have been eaten by hawks within hours--or hit by a car or whatever. When she...

    Choosing a litterbox

The litter box should be big enough that the bun can get in and turn around easily. My bun is a dutch, and only 4 lbs so I got her a little plastic shoe box for $1 and cut the sides down for easier entry/exit. Check out regular cat boxes, or the kind that have lids--you can use both the...

    Towel in his cage...

I gave mine a towel but she chewed holes in it. The last straw was when I found her with the towel stuck around her neck from having chewed a hole in it. I switched her to polar fleece blankets and she hasn't chewed since. Maybe the fabric doesn't appeal to her chewing instincts.

How do you find your free-roam rabbits? too many places to hide

When it was still new, she'd go behind the couch. But now that her forbidden areas are blocked off she prefers to stick to her favorite areas: napping in the open under the tv, or in her favorite corner (white nose is very helpful for visibility). And she's pretty well trained to come when...

    Grass vs Hay

Re: drying grass I took bunches of it about 1 inch in diameter and tied them up with twist ties. Then I draped them on my wooden drying rack in the garage until they were dry. Then I removed the twist ties and bagged it up.

    Question about litter

We've had our rabbit for years now and she still won't tolerate being picked up. This makes nail trimming an interesting experience. Anyway, forget trying to pick her up. Instead, train her when it is "bedtime." This is what we did. Your rabbit knows where her "den" is, so at bedtime, start...

Need help/advice on a stray rabbit

This was a great story! She is so beautiful, I'm glad you took the risk of rescuing her. It sounds like she's in good hands, for sure! Our Chestnut was an outdoor stray too, and she took much longer to warm up to us--she still won't tolerate being picked up. But she's a wonderful addition to...

    Grass vs Hay

I give her fresh grass in the spring/summer/fall as part of her salad but still give her dried hay. The consistencies are different. Grass is soft leaves, while the hay has thick stalks for teeth and digestion health. I did dry some grass for her, about half a mini bale. This was organic...
