I believe it's not the most common thing to do with your bunny throughout Europe, but in the US it a routine procedure a lot of bunny owners do. It's not harmful to your pet in any way if that's what you're asking for.

The main difference between "treating" your hand with sanitizer and soap is that sanitizer "kills" bacteria, and soap "washes" them off. It's advised to use soap on your hands because it will wash away the dirt more effectively. Sanitizers kill up to 99.9% bacteria on our hands - but...
I'd rather nibble the glass than wear them! But wearing them does seem to make the hoomans very happy. A lot more happy than nibbling.
