Hi guys! I have a 2 year mail rabbit named chacha, he is fixed. After a lot of consideration I decided to get another rabbit because I wanted him to have a friend. I got a 3 month old female a couple days off craiglist. She was with her siblings her whole life so she is very social.

I keep them in separate rooms for now. But occasionally let them meet in my bathroom, where it is no ones territory. The younger one, choco, clearly wants to befriend chacha.

They sniffed eachother a lot and seemed to get along well in the beginning. But now Chacha is obsessed with mounting and humping her. He will chase after her and do it. He is much bigger than her too!

Is this normal? He is fixed so I thought it wouldn’t be such a problem. She is not fixed yet as she is too young. Any advice?

I would keep them completely separated until 8 weeks after her spay. Not worth risking a fight.

If Chacha has been fixed more than 10 weeks, he might be trying to be the dominant bun, which is normal. However, I think it might be a better idea to separate them with barrier which they both still able to see each other but unable to bite each other just in case. And wait till the new bun is old enough to get fixed. After fixed her wait for 8-10 weeks then started bonding, would be better idea, as I have seen some posts the bonded pair broken after fixed. While waiting if the 2 rabbits not fighting then they will have no hateful feelings towards each other, but seeing each other all the time makes them get used to smelling each other.

Ok this sounds like a good idea! Now if only getting a rabbit neutered wasn’t so expensive😟
