Either a year ago or a few months ago, I posted about my bunny have a fungal infection around his mouth. Still to this day we’re not sure what it is, or what’s causing it to keep on returning. After numerous vet visits and completely having his scabs removed, it continues to come back. We’re trying to rule out whether he’s allergic to something or if it in his genetics. But after going through with so much medication, our options are short because too much medication can cause bunnies to have problems in their digestive tract. Please let me know if you have any information about this fungal infection. Or if your bunny has the same situation, please let me know.

Have you tried testing/treating for rabbit syphilis? This may be the variant of syphilis which only shows symptoms around the mouth. I understand the hesitancy around over-medicating a rabbit. In terms of topical care for the scabs/wounds, have you been giving something to help ease any pain/irritation that is happening as a result of this?

Yes we did tests and it was not syphilis. The doctor recommended revolution to us yesterday to try out and see if that works.

My boys had the problem of scabbing chin too. The vet told us to get chlorhexidine spray for antibacterial effects. It helped, but we were never told what it was. Tried changing bowl to bottle and it worked for one, the other just didn't take to drinkimg from a nozzle. It somehow cleared up still, but i wouldn't count on something clearing on its own.
So if your bun is drinking from a bowl, maybe try swapping to a bottle to see if it helps.
