Outdoor rabbit shed idea...

Hi all!

I'm considering getting a couple of rabbits and housing them in an outdoor shed, size is 12ft x 7ft, I'm planning on giving them the whole shed as there enclosure, with different levels inside and plenty of toys etc...do you think this is a decent size? im also planning on building a raised hutch inside 1 or 2 feet off the ground the length of the shed (7ft), by raising it off the ground they'll still have the whole 12x7 floor space to run around...

Any thoughts or opinions?

I always recommend housing rabbits inside. Though, this sounds like a decent size enclosure depending on how many rabbits you plan to put in it. I do definitely recommend having a safe outdoor run so they’re not in the shed 24/7. Does the shed have windows? What’s the average temperature in there?

It's not built yet but yes it will have windows, I'll be putting two inside it. As for temperature, I'm from Ireland so we don't ever get extreme weather, its a temperate climate with no extremes really, I no rabbits do far better in cooler weather than hot so this is in my advantage.

This sounds like a perfect outdoor enclosure for 2 rabbits. I’m sure they’ll love it! Just be sure it’s completely predator proof, which of course you know lol

Yeah wild animals wont be an issue as I life in a residential area, my biggest concern with predators will be cats so I'll defo make extra sure I'll be safe.

I hear of outdoor areas like this a lot from people in Europe, but rarely in the US .

There's a Facebook group from Norway called Den Store Kaninboka that has a lot of posts about outdoor habitats. They might give you some good ideas of what people have built -- there's some really impressive stuff people have done.
