What happened to my rabbit

Hi everyone, I hope I'm posting this in the right area, I've never done this before. Sorry for the downer of question but my 6 year old rabbit died a while back and I just can't get it off my mind. I haven't stopped thinking about what happened to her since I lost her and I'm just wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on it. I know its a long shot.

So she was acting perfectly normal until the night she died. I came home to my brother panicking because she would just be sitting there normally, then freeze, completely tensed up, and slowly fall onto her side. Then she would come out of it looking a little dazed and we tried to comfort her until it would happen again. We did end up trying to take her to an emergency vet but my poor baby started having seizures on the way there until she screamed and then she was gone.

What could have caused this?? The only thing I can think of is a stroke or something. We did find a small lump on her a few days before that we were planning to get checked out, so I'm wondering could this kind of thing happen from like an abcess bursting internally? The way she would freeze and slowly fall to her side is just very weird to me. Like I said, I know this is a long shot and there's probably a million things it could have been, but even just any ideas would help me. I'm so sorry if this is silly, I don't really know who else to ask.

The first odd behavior you describe sounds more like seizures and not a stroke. The other behavior that you thought were seizures just before she passed, are more likely to be the convulsions that occur just prior to death.

And for the cause of seizures, there are several possibilities, so it can be difficult to narrow it down. I wouldn't think the abscess had anything to do with the cause unless it had spread to the brain. Most likely reason for sudden seizures to occur in an older rabbit, would be age related illness like cancer, kidney, or heart problems. It doesn't sound like there is really anything you could have done to stop it or prevent it. Once acute reoccurring seizures occur like that, there's really not much that can be done to stop it or turn things around.

I'm very sorry you lost your bun. It's a difficult thing to go through, and even more so when you don't have answers.

I really don´t have any ideas, I´m afraid. But you certainly don´t have to excuse ANY THING AT ALL! No questions are too silly and no thoughts are bad (as long as they fit appropriately into this loving and caring forum of ours). We´re all in here to help and do life together - whether we walk on to legs or prefer to jump around ❤
