Ryegrass & peeing more

I gave my rabbit fresh ryegrass yesterday and today. I noticed that he has to pee more frequently than normal. Can ryegrass cause this?

The last time this happened was because I fed him parsley and he had to pee every 15 minutes. Can ryegrass have the same effect on rabbits?

I won't feed him any more of it and if this doesn't pass I'll contact the vet.

Hi, I think the key word is FRESH, when you feed fresh grass or fresh parsley they contain water so your rabbit gets more water with it. One of my rabbits (Smokey in my avatar) drinks 500 ml of water off her bottle daily, and sometimes would ask for more, so she pees a lot and I refill her little toilet pee-box (she uses it for pee only) every night because it is full. So how often he pees depends on how much fluids he gets from his food.

But sometimes it can be a sign of urinary tract problems or problems with kidneys or bladder, if you feel he is uncomfortable or stressed or anything maybe you can contact your vet and they will run tests to find out if there's urinary tract infection or something.

I'll keep an eye on him. He's been very happy and running around the house doing binkys and flopping to his side today so he seems happy. Right now he's sleeping and will wake up to use the toilet quite often- doesn't seem to be in pain though.

He's not really used to eating fresh grass so I probably fed him a little too much in a short period of time.

If this doesn't pass by tomorrow I'll call the vet.

Interesting, just found that rye grass pollen extract is used in herbal medicine for relaxing the muscles of urethra and so it may improve how bladder lets urine out. This used for relieving symptoms of non-cancerous enlarged prostate in humans. Can it be related perhaps?
If he is feeling good and comfortable and happy I wouldn't worry too much. But maybe someone can comment more about rye grass, will watch this thread and please keep us updated

Oh wow, I had no idea about that. Probably not a good idea to feed it to rabbits then.. I read somewhere that it's safe for rabbits to eat but I'm not so sure now if it can have these kinds of effects.

And yes, I'll update later today about how he's acting when he wakes up.

When I fed him parsley and this happened, I found out that parsley is a diuretic to humans and it had the same effect on my bunny. So it might be possible that the same thing happened here? But I'll update you later!

He seems to be back to normal. I think it was the ryegrass that caused it. Won't be giving it to him anymore.

Honestly, I don't think that peeing often is bad, except of when it linked to UTI. I would feed fresh ryegrass maybe not large quantities but think it's fine.
