Im curious about the quality of the Fur in rabbit especially in velveteen (mini rex). Few days ago, i had a discussion about density and resistance in Mini rex fur. For me, i dont really believe that dilute color such as blue, lilac or any related to dilute colors have poor in fur conditions directly. Is that true, dilute colors normally have less density and less resistance...and also the diameter of hair shaft also bit smaller??....is there any prove or it just a hoax?

Yes. As a rabbit judge this is usually what I observe. The actual color pigment melanin is known to strengthen the coat - it has size and substance of its own, it's not just like a dye. With the melanin clumped together or less present the hair shaft is usually thinner which makes the coat seem softer and less dense (in similar note: makes for very good texture on satins). But with selective breeding you can get the density of a dilute coat to rival a non-dilute coat. Some of the best furred rex I have seen have been dilutes, but more often than not in an average rex or mini rex class they have inferior coats to the blacks.

So..are you talking on behalf all judges or just your opinion and observation only mam?

So, in National Show...mostly i saw black and broken black won BOB or BOSB..

The question is it becoz those colors have great hair or becoz those colors are commonly bred by breeders in US?

A bit of both. Mostly, I'd say, because the colors are commonly bred by breeders here. Blacks are also a pretty simple color. Instead of worrying about color quality like you would have to in castors or torts, you can focus entirely on type and fur because black is just black.

How about Red??....Red is dense color, is tht true, hard to find a very good red. Sometimes it comes with good hair but poor in body..sometime vice versa...its hard to get red comes in full great package all together???...even in US?

Yes, that is also true in the US. It's a dense color but it can be harder to find than good blacks. Partially because it is less common than other colors, partially because you have to breed for a bright, clean red color as well so you can't focus just on type and fur like you can with blacks.
