Unfortunately we think they are mites :( We think they probably came from the hay.
We rung our vet today and completely explained to them what was on my bun. They have told us to do three treatments of puppy and kitten revolution; telling us that what it treats on rabbits covers a few different things, to cover all bases. Our borders are closed here in Australia, and the vet is on the border; which means what was a 3 hour round journey, would become about a 6 hour round journey :|
that really sucks :( 6 hours is horrible but at least its easy to be rid of. Going to be freezing hay for 72 hours prior to giving it to the bunny from now on

It does suck :/ The vet was okay to do it over the phone though, so we will pick up some revolution, treat all three buns, and then do it as a preventative quarterly, at the change of season.

Sounds good! Best of luck with your buns I'm sure they will feel so much better without those nasty mites on them

I read somewhere that freezing hay is not recommended, can do more harm than good (mycotoxins).

Really? I thought that was the go to to get rid of any bugs hiding in there. What would be recommended then?

If there is reason to think that the mite infection came from the hay, throw it out.
