The vet doesn’t know what they are and frankly he’s been useless. He did not administer revolution or advantage as he came to the conclusion it’s not fleas or fur mites. These bugs don’t move it looks like but I picked one up as small as they seem and they were moving! You can barely notice them but upon further inspection he has these all over his bottom fur

he has had a bald patch that’s been doing fine right now, fur growing back no dead skin flakes.Because they’re not noticeable at first I thought it was hay bits but as I was brushing him I noticed them on his back like in the picture.

No dandruff? What about signs of crusty skin?
no crusting anywhere, ears clean, neck all good, bald patch growing back with no crust, he looks healthy but I don’t know what these bugs are

I doubt they are mites then, and probably not biting insects. Which means revolution or advantage may not make a difference as the insects wouldn't be on the skin where the medication would make contact with them and kill them off. Could they maybe be combed out with a flea comb. Or there's a beaphar fly guard spray if it's available to you, that might work. You could ask your vet about it. It contains ivermectin, so it's important to follow the instructions, and/or your vets instructions.

flea comb is useless because the bugs pass through the wires unfortunately. My guess after hours of googling has been hay mites/static mites. This spray do I spray it all over his coat? I will be looking into finding a new vet the current one hasn't been helpful at all so far.

I would ask the vet for the Revolution, my rabbit had mites once and it looked like this. When I took him to the vet the vet couldn't even see them and wouldn't believe me until an assistant backed me up. The vet then took them under the microscope and confirmed mites.

They were specifically on his fur or where they on his skin as well? My bunnies look like they are strictly on his fur that’s why I’m asking

The mites mine had looked like "dandruff". When the fur came off, it had some of it at the root. They can only confirm them with microscope as the eggs attached to hair stem. I was not given Ivermectin. I had Paradyne. I would not spray anything on my rabbit. Especially all body spray. They groom constantly and they will ingest it. The mite meds are only applied between the shoulder blades.

At first glance it looks like flea dirt. I've seen it on my cats every time they go through a round of fleas. It wouldn't be moving though. :\

Please let me know if you find an answer to the question about the specks, I have found similar things on my bunnies fur, except they aren’t black they are more a tan/brownish colour.

my buns look that color as well. They look like a red/brown on his white fur, they don't seem to be moving on his fur except when I picked one up they were. It seems highly likely that these are hay mites

Hmmmm okay, are you going to vet about it?? Do you know how it is treated???? I don’t think the one on my bunny are moving, or at least I haven’t seen them move. He also doesn’t have any bald patches I can see

Yes it was just on the fur. My rabbits fur was so dense I couldn't check the skin level.
Ask you vet to take a look under the microscope at them.

I think the bald patch was due to shedding, unrelated, as if they were the usual dandruff mites there'd be flaking and stuff. Try and pick one up and observe closely if they move. I will be going to a new vet to have him under a microscope to confirm and then go from there

Hmmm, that’s interesting because my bunny is currently moulting aswell. Maybe it’s something to do with that?? I have tried to look closely, but they just look like specks to me. Please let me know what happens at the vet!

I doubt it's because of shedding. The only conclusion I got to was he went to pee on hay, hay had mites and now they are all over him. Your bunny could maybe just have hay fluff stuck to his fur. If you have a brush like the hairbuster brush him and see what comes out with the fur, thats how I first found out about these things. They are really really small

Hmmm I will look at him again in the morning then. Please still update me on what your vet says to you though!

So I checked my bun, and what was on him was definitely moving
I’ll be going to the vet in the coming days if you’re first to go let me know what he says as well. That’s very unfortunate your bun has mites too :(

Unfortunately we think they are mites :( We think they probably came from the hay.
We rung our vet today and completely explained to them what was on my bun. They have told us to do three treatments of puppy and kitten revolution; telling us that what it treats on rabbits covers a few different things, to cover all bases. Our borders are closed here in Australia, and the vet is on the border; which means what was a 3 hour round journey, would become about a 6 hour round journey :|
