My bunny was neutered 2 days ago and I have to syringe feed him every 4 hours. He absolutely hates it but we get there. I rescued him and took months to bond and now he follows me everywhere, comes and sits on the sofa with me and is a lovely boy. Since being neutered he doesn’t want to be around me and obviously associates me with the feeds He hates. Will this last forever? Or do they forgive you? I’m so worried he won’t be my loving boy after all this and he means the world to me!

He won’t hate you forever, my bunny also avoided me after being neutered and would attack me. He became a nightmare for a bunny but after all the hormones and not feeling pain he was back to normal again.

Just spoil him with food and he will come back again ☺️

Have your bunny started to eat without your help?

He’s only on day 2 and slowly eating hay and pellets but need to keep syringe feeding till at least tomorrow. He’s not accepting treats at the moment. He gets very stressed and even trying to do the bunny borrito method is a struggle! But eventually he settles. He’s never been one for being picked up which I’ve always respected. Normally if he wants a cuddle he comes to me which is most of the time!
I am just so worried I’m going to lose the lovely relationship we had before this.

He'll be mad for some time but as long as you continue to build the bond, you'll be okay. You can continue to hand feed or give treats to entice him. My rabbit absolutely hates getting her nails cut. It's an outright war with me being covered in fur by the end of it. She gets super mad at me, but then she gets over it when I call her over to give her treats the next day. I also figured out when she's mad, she'll pee on my bed as revenge lol.

You just want to give them their space and you can just sit there, hang out but don't try to reach out for him. Leave a treat nearby, then one in your hand and work your way from there.

one of my really friendly, loving attention bunny will chatter his teeth at me when Im nail trimming. He’s all cute and loving soon after though. I’ve never experienced a rabbit being neutered, although I’m sure he’ll come out of it

Are you in London, UK? If you are, I recommend the Beaumont Hospital in Camden, they have several expert rabbit vets. Did the vet give you painkiller to give at home twice a day? It's very unusual to have to syringe feed males for two days after neutering. If he is eating a reasonable amount of hay, you can stop syringe feeding. He will forgive you in a little while, don't worry. You may have to grovel and spend a lot of time on the floor but he'll be back to his lovely self soon.

Omg reading this post I genuinely thought it was one I might have drafted !😂 my Bun was spayed 10 days ago and was the EXACT same. Syringe feeding critical care she hated and tried to jump and escape from the burrito !! She even bit me on 3 separate occasions when I was trying to give her a treat.... for no reason! (She’s never ever ever bit me before !!!!) so I was so worried she wouldn’t go back to her usual self ... but honestly she’s PERFECT now she seems exactly like her old self, follows me around, when I come home climbs her paws up my leg, everything back to normal! So trust the process it will be worth it! Message me if you have any More questions if looks like we are going through the same thing!

Wow you both seem to have really unique bunnos!
My bunno, aptly named Storm, wouldn't chill out! It's been 10 days now and the only thing changed is that he's stopped nipping my fingers for a tasting! He still nips and bites us all indiscriminately if he's angry though...
We dropped him in at the vets at 10 and we waited for their call until 13 and then just went on in to see what was up. Nothing was up, except for Storm chilling in his carrier, garfing down hay! So we took him home and i thought that oh well, he'll be groggy and stay chill until i set up his crate 'cause he managed to jump over the tall wall we made the night before.
Lo and behold, he started cage-raging right away! He didn't seem to care that he'd just come from surgery, goofing and raging like his usual self.
So yeah, they won't stay angry at you! Storm was never angry at me for that to begin with, but... When my lost boy Musti came from his neuter he didn't want anything to do with us and would rather sleep beneath his crate, in a couple of days he was on my bed going "diggy-diggy" again; i've had great luck with great-recovery-rate boys! Yo bun will chill too!

Ahhh they’re such funny things aren’t they! She’s back 100% to her normal self now loving her usual personality being back 😍 glad to hear about your Bun seems like such a character !
