My Apollo has been acting strangely lately. He’s 4 months and he’s been flopping down, sleeping a little more and not always wanting to come out of his cage. I switched his pellets and he seemed to like them but now he doesn’t eat all of them like usual. Also his favorite snacks like blueberry and cucumber don’t excite him anymore. I didn’t give him any today but i usually add like half a slice at breakfast or a blue berry with cilantro and his pellets and half a slice at dinner with some around the day for treats. I don’t know if I’m feeding him wrong but he’s not eating all his cecotropes and its stinking up my room and I’m worried something may be wrong with him

Did you slowly introduce the new pellets? If not, he may have an upset stomach?

When you introduce any new item whether it be pellets or veggies, introduce them slowly into your rabbit's diet. This will help you figure out if the pellets/veggies are something he can tolerate as every rabbit is different. Maybe bring back the old pellets and put a bit of the new one, and increase the new pellets with time so that way his stomach gets used to it. If you're out of the old ones, give only a little of the new pellets. It can potentially take up to 2 weeks for him to get adjusted. Hopefully that is the case! If like a day or 2 go by and you still don't see any change in his behavior, then it might be something else and you should seek advice from a rabbit savvy vet. Keep us updated!

he’s better now. i took him to the vet just in case and she said he is okay. mostly, i think i was feeding him too much so i cut down his diet a little and also I think he may be a little depressed and so i’m looking into getting another bunny

It's been a long time now, is your bunny still okay? @KosmicKole

That's great news! Glad that he's doing okay! Would you mind sharing a picture of him?

Awwwh so true!
Storm blends in with the rocks as well, don't have a pic of that yet but will try to get one!

Now that he's 5 months of age, he should start a transition to his adult diet. That means timothy-based, plain pellets and no more alfalfa hay (if he's been getting that). Remember to change things gradually.

He should also be getting leafy greens (slowly introduced) moreso than fruit or cucumber.

i’ve been giving him green leaf lettuce and turnip greens, also cilantro, parsley, celery. he just usually likes cucumber more than anything. I don’t know if he’s ever had alfalfa hay, when i got him he was eating timothy and now he eats timothy and orchard grass hay mixed because i’m allergic to timothy and it helps a little. thank you for the resource though, i appreciate it because i’m always trying to expand what he eats ❤️

If you're allergic to timothy, don't use it. Any grass hay is fine. Orchard, bermuda, brome... it doesn't have to be timothy.

What pellets do you feed?

he loves timothy, that’s why i get the mix. i was planning to just use it to switch him over to orchard but it doesn’t break me out too bad so i’m okay. I feed him Kaytee pellets

He may like bermuda or brome hay just as much. Just hate to have you suffer unnecessarily when he may be just as happy with a different type.

What kind of Kaytee? (There are numerous lines of Kaytee... some good, some bad)

i might try a different type of hay in the future, I don’t know and it says timothy complete

Timothy Complete is what all my bunnies have eaten. First one, I don't know how old he was when he died as we rescued from a breeder, 2nd one is 12 and the 3rd one is over 6. I think that brand is a good value for the nutrition it provides. The plain kind is best, no fruit added. Good choice. Orchard grass is what mine like the best as far a hay is concerned. Some bunnies seem to get excess cecals if too much fresh vegetables or fruit, other seem to tolerate with no problem Hopefully yours is the latter. As they age, the digestion changes and greens might need to be adjusted.
