I just got two new dwarf Hot Tots. one's a boy and one's a girl, the boy is 7 mnoths old and the girl is 2 years old... does the age matter? I would like to breed them but I heard about peanuts and dwarfism. does anybody have any information on that? I'm not too sure about it, I researched a little bit but I'm still a little confused.

So age doesn’t really matter but if she hasn’t been bred before she may have trouble getting pregnant at 2 years but that doesn’t happen very often. Dwarfs don’t usually have very many at a time. So there is what’s called a false dwarf and a true dwarf. These are the genes. So if both parents have a true dwarf gene then you will get a peanut or two and they usually don’t make it after a week. But the rest will be true dwarfs. If you breed a true dwarf and a false dwarf half will true dwarfs and the other half will be false dwarfs and no peanuts.

Thanks for the input! I didn't see that, that will be very helpful. She has had a few litters before we got her but all three had been unsuccessful, I guess I should have included that too... is that a mom thing? 2 where peanuts and one was still born. I have bread Dutch but never a dwarf breed, your help is very needed and appreciated!

It depends on the buck too. If it was the same buck on all three. So if she had peanuts that means she is a True Dwarf and so was the buck that she was bred with. Dwarfs struggle more with breeding anyway and it is more likely for those breeds to have unsuccessful litters.

Oh, Okay. She was breed with 3 different bucks but they weren't successful with other does either. Could that be why?

Hopefully, you’ll have better luck using your buck. Given her history I would probably only give her two chances at a successful litter, unless she has awesome type. Unfortunately, peanuts are a possibility with dwarf breeds. We had to deal with it, with our Polish.

If i were to breed my polish with my hotot, would that help my chances?

Not for peanuts...they’re both dwarfs. As far as having a successful litter, I would try your buck first. He’s old enough to breed.
