Hi! I’ve had my bunny, willow (lo lo for short), for over a year now, and we recently moved her into my sisters old room with a two story hutch instead of her being in my room with a small cage that i left open (she had free range of my room and her cage was basically just a litter box). I went off to college, so she didn’t have much interaction for a few months, but now i’m home and hanging out with her again. I went in her room tonight and she started running around and thumping and now she’s running and then slide falling like a baseball player, laying there for a few minutes then getting up and going crazy running around again. she doesn’t look startled or scared or anything, she keeps coming up to me (i’m sitting on the floor), and i’ll pet her then she’ll take off running again. i’ve never seen her do this, should i be worried? she’s usually really chilled out and relaxed, like she usually just cuddles me while i do my homework, she rarely runs unless she’s chasing our cat.

You said you left her for a few months correct? And she was in a hutch with little interaction. Then my guess is she’s just happy to see you and is excited to get months of energy out finally.

yes, my parents were taking care of her and only brought her out every so often when they cleaned the hutch or changed her food and water, because they hate picking her up (she scratches and freaks out if she isn’t held right). I’ve just never seen her act so crazy and i’ve had her since September of 2018! she was also thumping a lot, which she’s only ever done when I used the hanging bottle for water and it knocked over. she calmed down a little bit after I posted and laid next to me, but her behavior just seemed so weird.

I think it’s just her way of telling you that she disapproved of being in her hutch for so long and how she’s happy to be able to free roam again. I wouldn’t worry about it!

Exercise! Your bunny is bored and isnt getting enough "free range" time after having all that space to begin with. I take my baby to the park 2-3 times a week and we use the fenced in baseball diamond as a play pen. If yours is too fast to catch and wont leave and runs around and makes you catch them, then walmart sells cheap leads and little harnesses you can hook them up to that are long and can have LOTS of play room in, rather than a leash or retractable leash.
Exercise is KEY. If you were self isolated in a cage all day everyday, with no where to explore or move... would you not get stir crazy??
Goodluck!
