Recently bred my Sable Mini Rex doe to a BEW Mini Rex buck. Both of the parents do have rex fur, as well as their parents (BEWs parents were on site, and Sable came with a pedigree). She produced 7 kits (three Sable, four black). I’ll be attaching pictures later once I’m off work, but one kit in particular doesn’t have Rex fur, but he does have curly whiskers which is a tad confusing. I’m not sure if it’s the length of his fur, or lack of density? Or if it’s something revolving around the Rex gene?

If you google "hairless rabbit" you will find that hairless rabbits are rex rabbits with a gene disorder. They are being bred in warm climates because they can stand hotter temperatures. There are many pictures online of rabbits with this disorder.

He is the cutest! Check out his videos on YouTube. It looks like some of the rabbits do grow hair as they age.

Edit; I also should not that the kit DOES have hair, but the fur is, seemingly, that of a regular rabbits’, rather than the short velvety Rex fur (despite both parents have rex fur).

The top picture shows a comparison of him (left) and one of his littermates (right). The second image is of him, sharpened and brought the highlights forward to show that his whiskers are curly (usually a notable Rex trait). I’m not sure if it’s just poor conformation (lack of density; fur length is just too long?)

Probably just a throwback to some point in the line where someone bred a normal coated bunny with a rex. Sometimes those guard hairs just show up again!

I'd just say it was really poor rex fur... long, thin, protruding guard hairs. Rex fur is recessive so it can't be a normal coat
That was my thoughts as well. Definitely don’t see myself repeating this cross again, but will probably be pairing her with more denser Mini Rex bucks from here on out.
