Hi, I've got 8 and a half week old mini rex. And he's started biting. Last night just squealing didn't work and a couple times when I tried to pull my hand away He just bit harder and it did break the skin once. So today I'm giving a squeal and putting him back down on the floor. It seems to be helping. Is this really common in such a young baby? And why?

Another trick you can try is whenever he bites, gently but firmly push his head down and hold for a few seconds. This is how a momma bun disciplines her kits. That may get the message across.

Be sure you are differentiating between a nip and a bite. Exploratory nips are a way a young rabbit explores/discovers his surroundings. If your fingers smell of any food or hay, that could cause him to nip at them as he's so young and still learning.

A bite is intentionally hard and intended to hurt. A rabbit may do this if his other attempts at communicating have gone ignored. They communicate through body language, so if that is being ignored, then he may resort to a bite. An example could be a rabbit nudging you to either get attention or to get you to move. If he's ignored, he may nip, and if that is ignored, may bite. He may also bite if he is being held against his will -- trying to get away.
Here's some info on bunny body language:

Also maybe you are too invasive and he's trying to protect himself, maybe you enter his territory ar he doesn't like to be picked up or something. You'd need to gain his trust and bond with him so he take you as a friend not as predator

Thank you both for responding.
And Thank you for all the good information. I will definitely try to what you suggested.- he was sitting on my lap and I was gently petting him as he was licking my hand. I definitely will continue learning more about their body language. Thanks for the link.

Bunnies only lick who they love, so I would consider these to be love nips. He's just young and doesn't know his own strength yet! :)
