So, I filmed my bunnies eating a whole romaine lettuce. Like not cut up, just straight outta the bag. Just to see if they could eat the entire thing because I gave them couple pieces and its like always gone in the next few hours. They don't leave scraps behind.

So tried a whole piece of romaine lettuce, and the small female bunny (tan one in avatar) really loves lettuce. So thankfully it satisfies the kids needs to feed my bunny because kids really obsess over the idea of feeding a bunny. Its hard for my adult brown male bunny to eat on command or whenever, but it seems he really likes lettuce too, but not in the same way the younger female does.

But is it okay for my bunnies to eat an entire romaine lettuce in 6 hours? Seems like alot of food for a small bunny but I assumed vegetables are healthy. Should I stock up on lettuce because they have proved to me they can finish an entire romaine lettuce in 6 hours, not like a course of 2 days. So I don't have to worry about leaving them too much that will spoil.

I recorded them eating the lettuce with my iPhone on a tripod, so you can hear the munching sound while they eat. Gonna try edit it and put it on youtube, hopefully some people will like it. I kinda wish YouTube would love watching my bunny videos as much as all the kids who ask me to pet my bunny.

Greens, including lettuce, are perfectly fine for rabbits. The thing to know is that they should be given time initially to allow their tummies time to adjust. So with any new new type of green, they should (ideally) be given a small amount. If they like it and don't have a change in poos, then they can have more the next day. Each day increasing the amount.

You can work up to them eating 2-4 cups of greens daily. Once they are used to that, great.

I find it funny that they would take that long to eat the greens though. Mine have always devoured all their greens at one time as soon as offered. They don't last 5 minutes.

Here's a sample of one of mine eating basil from the garden.

I was wondering about this myself. I made a big batch of cilantro, turnip greens, and romaine all mixed together with a small amount of shredded carrot and cabbage. I fed Dortmund a small amount and he liked it. I was just wondering how often and how much I should feed this to him.

Your rabbit can have this mix as often as you like if you want to feed it too him (though for Dortmund’s enjoyment you may want to change it up sometimes). He should get about 2-4 cups of this daily (like Blue Eyes said) but limit the carrots because they are high in sugar. I hope this helps!

I need to find a way to buy in bulk. Does Costco sell romaine at decent deals? I bought 5-6 packs of Romaine lettuce (3 count each bag) because it was on sale 99 cents at Ralphs. Mainly b/c the outside was kinda wilted, but the inside was green and fresh, it was mostly cosmetic. Ralphs sometimes have discounted packaged veggie deals if its about to expire, which is fine for my rabbits since they eat it so fast.

Which is nice when you have bunnies if you prepare vegetables, you can give the scraps to the bunnies. Have less food waste.
