yesterday I got this gorgeous white bunny and the bottoms of her feet are pee stained dark yellow :(. Is there a way to get rid of that grossness? I don’t understand how people let this happen so often, isn’t it preventable by using appropriate litter?

I wanted to include a photo but can’t figure out how.

That’s normal, you can clean it or over time it will become better. I know you can spot clean with water and use potato flour, don’t know if that’s the name in English. At least many in show in my country recommend that to clean dirty yellow paws that have white fur.

Toste my bunny always have stained paws . But they are no longer yellow, just a little brown/gray. He lives outdoors and love digging :)

So the yellow will disappear with good litter ^^

It is normal that feet are not that clean, not gross. Anyway, you can design their litterbox and habitat so that they stay cleaner. I would only try to get the feet white if you're going to a show, in any other case I would definitly not put any chemicals on the bunny, it's just an aesthetic problem of yours and not a real problem.

The Hydrogen Peroxide is not a chemical, it is actually used as a disinfectant for wounds. I have also used it to get blood out of clothes.

So this may sound weird, but my aunt will soak a bunch of towels in vinegar and water and lay them out on her bathroom floor wet or damp and have her bunnies walk around on the wet towels for a bit. Kind of cleaning it themselves with natural ingredients. Said she does this about once a week to keep her rabbits feet white. Curious to think what you all think about that. Told me a few years ago and I didn't think about it until now... Now that I have my own bun.

As long as the vinegar smell is not too strong and the towels are not too wet, I think it is a great idea. Vinegar "fumes" can be very harsh on the nose and the buns cant get away from it if they are walking around on the floor. Other than that, no worries.

Hi, you only have your rabbit for one day and it is all in your hands to give her proper care. Just set up her litter box properly and if you will manage to keep her environment clean she should clean her feet and it will become white again without a few days or a week. But if she has bad toilet and cleaning habits she will always have dirty feet and you should train her to use her toilet and clean herself properly.

I have one white rabbit in my avatar - Leo, who's feet are snow-white all the time, I never had to clean him, he's very tidy rabbit he's nearly 11 months now. My other rabbits are not white but also clean themselves pretty well except of Smokey who is not an easy one and depending on her mood can make some puddles outside her box and lay in them, she gets dirty and stinky then and I have to clean her not only feet but sometimes larger areas on her coat, but this is because she's generally very nervous rabbit and had bad experience in her past and this is related to her mental health. Her kits were toilet-trained from beginning and they are 5 months now and very tidy well maybe it comes from their father Leo, but maybe just training and keeping them very clean, they are excellent very tidy rabbits.

So just try to keep her clean and she should clean herself you will see in a week or two if you still need any action. If it is very dirty right now you can use baby wipes to clean her feet or as said above use some vinegar.

Would be interesting to see some pictures of her and her feet too :)

I use 5% white distilled vinegar it doesn't smell too strong but if you buy stronger like 10% or 20% you should add water to make it 5%. Well, sometimes you want to use 10% vinegar for cleaning cages but it smells strongly and also stronger vinegar can cause discoloration on plastic or if you use on your carpet.

Generally 5% table vinegar is enough and doesn't smell bad.

Just always remember that they lick their fur. If it doesn't go into your mouth- it shouldn't go into theirs. Its a good rule of thumb.
I always dry it out after I put it on. And I always watch them for at least 30 minutes to make sure that they don't lick it until I know that it is completely dry but I don't have any white rabbits anymore. I do try to take every precaution when it comes to my rabbits, and I would never recommend something that would hurt or harm a bunny, with proper use the hydrogen peroxide can be safe to use. Also, did you know that people use hydrogen peroxide as a mouth rinse to whiten their teeth? Of course, I know this still doesn't mean that its ok for bunnies to ingest, just some interesting info.

Here is a photo of her, I don’t have one of her feet yet :). She doesn’t have a name yet so suggestions are welcome. Thinking about Rapunzel. Thank you all for the helpful responses!

I've heard of using hydrogen peroxide for whitening rabbit feet I've never tried myself but have used it for cleaning wounds on humans including myself, also you're right it can be used as a mouth rinse so I would probably use it with a caution and maybe would just clean with water excess of it after use just to make sure there's nothing on rabbit's fur or feet that they could lick. Of course dry well after using water as well.

She's a very pretty little girl! How old is she? Don't worry about the name just try different names and see if one of them will stick to her

Oh and you know when I adopted Bernie she was 7 months old she's broken cream her feet were a bit yellowish and first I thought they need cleaning but later I realised that her pads are just darker colour it is very interesting I will try to get some pics I surely had some in my laptop need to find. This is only for her front legs but hind feet are white and she cleans herself well even if sometimes they're a bit dirty because of her toilet box was full she'd clean them herself after I clean her litterbox.

This is Bernie, old photo taken for medical reason to show a bald spot on her hind leg she had when I got her. You can probably see on her front fur looks like darker pad this can't be removed it's perfectly clean. Her hind feet are cream not white but clean as well

Here's Fred, he's not white but you can see that his feet are very clean. I never had to clean them he's just a very tidy rabbit. I have to take photo of Leo's feet, they are spotlessly white, also never had to clean them.

And no, Fred in not in trance just sometimes when he's feeling very happy especially after I brush him or clip his nails he's turning on his back laying on my lap I am not holding him that way, he's just a very happy rabbit and loves grooming.

Fred also keeps his cage very clean here's his toilet after one week use, as you can see he only uses one spot for urinating so the rest is dry. He likes one corner of his cage opposite to his toilet covered with hay, just small area he uses as his bed, it is always clean I only shake it once in a week or two and sometimes change to some fresh hay and the middle of his cage is always clean and free of hay because he pushes hay into corners and likes laying on a clear floor.

This was Leo's toilet, I've changed it to a smaller because as you can see he only uses one corner, and you can remove it once or twice a week and move some dry pellets into it. Now he has a washing bowl half size of this and with higher sides, but Leo is a dwarf mix, wouldn't work for my lop girls
