Is my bunny sick?

I have an 11 month old un-desexed male rabbit that is getting desexed soon, for a short time he has had a diarrhea type poo other than that he doesn’t seem to have an other issues. Is this normal, is it because he is not desexed, should he go to the vet, please help!!!!!

It’s not normal for a bunny to have diarrhea. Put him on a hay diet and try to make him get some fluids in.

If it doesn’t help, you will have to take him to the vet. Diarrhea can become dangerous because of not enough water.

Hello, are you certain it is diarrhea? Supposedly, it is rare in bunnies but DEFINITELY life threatening when it does occur.

In the picture, it appears to be urine. Sometimes, bunnies have very dark, thick (with weird particles) reddish or brownish urine depending on what you have been feeding them. Too many carrots seem to be one of the causes, and my bunnies are actually having this "issue" I believe due to too much alfalfa hay (it was mainly for the nursing Mom and recently weaned babies).

If it is urine, it does not mean they are sick-- please stick to a simple diet of 70% - 80% hay, a little bit of pellets and/or dark, leafy greens and see how they feel

I lost my baby to diarrhoea so if it is that do take it seriously. Mine might have survived with fluid injections but the vet didn't take it seriously enough and I didn't push the vet hard enough to make them take it seriously so please don't make that mistake like I did. But as someone else said you gotta make sure that it's feces and not just pee as it can be quite dark sometimes

I echo @Bunny_Mommy 's question about urine versus diarrhea. Is the towel everything you're seeing, or did you remove poop mud-puddles before taking the photo? If the towel is what you're seeing, that looks very much like orange pee, which is normal in rabbits. My rabbit only has orange pees now (unsure why; just sort of happened) since he was about 1 year old? Rabbit pee comes in any shade from yellow to orange. If you see red or brown, then that's indicative of a problem (blood).

Okay thanks for the information, I will change his diet to more leafy greens and I think he is eating alfalfa hay so I will change that too. Thank you so much again for your reply.

I am so sorry about your little baby hopefully he/she is having fun in bunny heaven, I will keep an eye on my boy.

No I didn’t remove any “mud-puddles” before the photos. Thank you for the information and I am glad I am not the only one whose rabbit’s pee is orange, I just hope all it is, is pee. And again thank you for the info!

Rabbit wee can vary so much in colour. This may help
