I'm going shopping tomorrow for new bunny food and I need Timothy hay based pellets. Any good brands that sell in large bags (I have 4 rabbits that go insane for pellets especially marshmallow she is very food aggressive)

I buy my rabbit pellets online because that is where I found it the cheapest. Chewy.com has Oxbow Essentials for just under $30 for 25 pounds. I limit the amount of pellet that I give to encourage them to eat hay.

I buy my hay from a farm and garden store. I get it for $9 a square bale. That is about 40 pounds. In the winter, sometimes the hay isn't as good of a quality, so then I might increase the amount of pellets by a small amount.

Small World bunny pellets. Very cheap at Walmart. About ten dollars for 25 pounds. That’s what my bunny eats and he loves it. Speaking of which I need to feed him soon. It’s not Timothy hay but it’s still good:

I don't think it's a great idea to keep recommending this feed. The main ingredient is wheat middling. It's not terrible but isn't among the better options. There are better choices.

Bunnies over 6-7 months should be limited on pellet amount. Link explains how much based on body weight.

@Bunny mommy , just checking that you know to transition the food. Don't just suddenly switch. Mix the old with the new. (Just in case you weren't already aware.)

Here are some brand options and how-to transition:

We get Oxbow Essentials as there is no alfalfa in it, just Timothy from Amazon. Ours only get a tiny bit of pellet so it lasts quite awhile and their main nutrition comes from orchard grass and veggies.
Do you ever feed timothy hay or just orchard grass?

I'm allergic to Timothy Hay--dust mask, surgical glove and lots of arm washing. Went to orchard grass and had no problems with it whatsoever. We went to a Timothy based pellet as one of our bunnies was having a loose stool issue with any pellet that had alfalfa in it.

I was just wondering if orchard grass is a good complete replacement for timothy hay. My sister adores my bunnies and she and her kids want one now too but she is severely allergic to timothy hay. I wasn't sure if timothy hay could be completely removed from the diet and replaced with orchard grass but I've heard that it can be done.

Orchard is totally fine in place of timothy. Timothy is just commonly available in many places but just about any grass hay will be fine. (Alfalfa is not grass, but a legume)
Orchard grass hay, Bermuda grass, brome, meadow hay.... all or any of these is just fine.

Good to know!! My buns love oat hay. I try to pick out the flowers and save those for treats, I know they're high in carbs. I want to offer orchard grass next, I'm just not sure if you have to introduce different hays slowly (like pellets) so I'm waiting a bit. I just added the oat hay to their diet.

Oops! I just saw that I included oats above (I managed to correct it on my post). These grass hays are preferred: timothy, orchard, meadow, Bermuda, brome,

Wheat, rye, oats and barley are hays grown primarily for their seeds which are indeed high in carbs. It is recommended that if those are fed, that the grain parts are shaken off as much as possible. These shaken hays don't have the same nutritional value as the preferred hays.

Hays don't usually need to be transitioned. They can be offered any time and even mixed just for fun. Some rabbits may be a bit choosy though.

Awww bummer. They really enjoy it! Thank you for the update!

@Niomi The Chewy store in my area doesn't have that. I should've got it when i was in Minneapolis, Minnesota (i was there like yesterday lol)

Anyway I'm think of getting Sherwood brand pellets. Can anyone tell me if this a good choice or not?

I've been feeding Sherwood for awhile now. I like the info they have on their site as well. When I first started getting their pellets, they came in a clear plastic bag inside a shipping box. The company has since grown and now has the commercial packaging for their pellets. I find the pellets to be incredibly fresh and green - noticeably moreso than any other pellets I've purchased.
