Christmas trees

With the festive season upon us we are wandering if it's ok to have a real tree? If it is would it be ok if our bunnies had a nibble.

That is a good question, and I hope to see some comments on this. I did do a search on the subject, and could not find any information that said it was dangerous. Wild rabbits are exposed to pine and cedar trees, and although the oils cause respiratory problems chewing on them does not seem to be harmful.☻☺

According to this source, spruce and fir are the only safe evergreen twigs:

I find it more of a challenge to keep them away from the wiring for the lights. Some people completely block access to around the tree. I've raised the tree up to try to keep the nibbling to a minimum -- even with an artificial tree.

I love the ideas here and in the other thread! We have a fake tree that I will probably put up tonight (got lazy about it over the weekend). There seems to be two main schools of thought or approaches: the "put it up high" option, and the "fence it off" option.

We will be going with the second one, since our fake tree is tall and would hit the ceiling before we could get it up high enough ... and our fake tree is the kind with the pre-wired lights, which go down low. I will post a picture once we have it squared away. Hopefully the X-pen won't make the tree look too terrible ... can't be helped I guess!
