Re-bonding 2 buns

Hi all, we have had 2 buns since they were babies, as they are litter mates. We brought them home at the same time and they bonded very nicely, grooming each other and sleeping together. UNTIL, about 3 mo old, then one started actively chasing the other, which lead us to find out that we had 1 female bun and 1 male bun. Oops!

So, we immediately separated them.

Now, fast forward 2 months and the male bun has been neutered and the female bun will be fixed, when its recommended, in late Dec.

Since our male bun had surgery over 3 weeks ago, we decided to see if we could put them together again, so we created a "new" area for them together to get to know one another again.
Our male bun still pokes and tries to hump the female and she wants nothing to do with him.

So, do we continue to have little bits of supervised time together or do we simply wait until "after" she has been fixed before we attempt this bonding again?

We are lost...they are in kennels next to each other, so they see each other.

We fear re-bonding them now, as we assume after our girl has surgery we will have to separate them again until she heals.

Do not even attempt to bond them until after she has been spayed. It's best to wait 6-8 weeks after a male's neuter anyway to ensure hormones are fully dissipated. There is no advantage in trying to bond them now, but there is much risk. It could prevent them from bonding for real in the future.

Keep them apart until she's spayed.

When you do try introducing them again, if you see mounting and what not, I'd suggest not separating them unless it is a fight or blood is drawn. It is most likely that one is just trying to establish dominance like Hope did with Chris. When we brang Chris to hope's cage after them never meeting before Hope chased Chris, mounted his face and butt, and humped him and grabbed his fur in her mouth all the while. Chris just sat there, and eventually after a while Hope was content and they both knew that Hope was the boss. Now they get along well and groom and snuggle each other.

This sounds like what my two buns used to do with each other before my female unexpectedly passed away yesterday. I loved seeing them love on each other. ❤️ I will surely miss it. [emoji22]

Aww. That's sad. I know what it feels like to have a bun pass away, because less than 2 weeks ago, my bun Munai was euthanized at four months. Hope you feel better soon!
