Seems a silly question I know, but my Bun-Bun is not fussy!
I was wondering what greens to feed him? At the moment he has a peculiar fancy for Kale/Cabbage? I haven't tried Apples but was going to try that tonight?
He also seems to like fresh potatoes ( Which are not green), or basically any veg he can get his maw on, which is green. Grass included ( Which I believe is normal).
The vet advised not too much Carrot as there is a bit of sugar in there, so limit the carrots ( which I do).
His normal food is pellets & Hay which he enjoys ( But not as much as Kale! ).

Health wise, he's extremely fit, if not a bit podgy. He has exercise via my garden & house - His poop seems as normal, and seems to be pretty jolly on the diet of the above. Teeth are fine and dandy, although I need to go and get his nails clipped, which he may stamp at me for!

Try not to feed cabbage. Red/green cabbage, bok choy, Brussel sprouts. Cabbage type greens can lead to gas issues and stasis. Not good.

NO POTATOES! Potatoes are toxic.

Carrot and apple should be lumped in with all other fruits, to be fed as a treat only, small amounts in moderation! High sugar content.

Kale is okay, but in smaller amounts. Kale, Parsley, Spinach, alfalfa, etc... High calcium, high protein, high oxalate veggies can lead to bladder sludge and kidney problems if fed too many too frequently. These veggies are totally safe to feed, just don't give a lot.

Normal lettuces are fine. Endive, green leaf, red leaf, romaine, dandelion greens, etc... Standard spring mix from the grocery store is usually perfect.

Herbs are great as well. Cilantro is usually bunny crack, basil, dill, oregano, etc....

Tops from veggies like carrot tops, raddish tops, etc.... great as well.

:yeahthat:

Potatoes are toxic, along with corn and other starchy foods.
Fruits should be a treat, just like carrots they have a lot of natural sugars.
I give my rabbit romaine lettuce, he LOVES it. Iceberg lettuce should be avoided.

Thank you both ( Black Mini Rex) for this! Hokai,

Actually, potatoes are NOT toxic. Cooked potatoes are a good starter food for baby rabbits. They are not toxic uncooked, but that is a somewhat aquired taste, in my experience only about 1/4 of my rabbits like it. About the same ratio that will eat pumpkin.

What is toxic are green parts of the potato plant (or any other of the nightshade family), but modern verietys are quite free of toxins in the potatoes.

Rabbits can cope somewhat better with herbal toxins than us, potatoes suitable for us are fine for rabbits too. In moderation, of course, the energy and starch content is something to consider.

There are actually many foods to be considered in a healthy rabbits diet.
Alfalfa, radish, and clover sprouts
Asparagus
Basil
Beet greens
Bell Peppers (green, red, yellow…)
Bok Choy
Broccoli
Some bunnies may find this a rather “gassy” veggie. If diarrhea occurs, remove from diet
Brussels Sprouts
Carrot tops (organic)
Chard
Cilantro
Clover
Dandelion Greens (Pesticide Free!)
Eggplant
Endive
Escarole
