Is anybody here a bird specialist?

I know, this is the rabbit forum, but I suddenly got a problem with my cockatiel. I thought somebody here may know about them as well.

He got scared by the sound and flew and got caught in fly ribbon. I read advise to use vegetable oil to remove glue and then to wash bird with dish soap (Dawn liquid soap was recommended)
Oil worked well to remove glue, then I decided I would use free and clear "Seventh generation" detergent, as I haven;t found any free of dye Dawn in stores. I worked small amount of detergent into affected feathers and then rinsed him off from the pitcher (with warm water). In the morning I saw that he is still very oily.
Any advise in this situation? He looks sad today, but I think he was pretty stressed.

I have had very good luck using Johnson and Johnson tear free, sensitive skin, hypoallergenic, blah blah blah baby shampoo on a cockatiel. I would give that a shot.

Family member kissed the bird, had to remove lipstick. Was fairly oily and hard to remove, the baby shampoo took care of it. As I imagine Dawn dish soap would too. Used that on my dog and a Cat at work that had been soaked in gasoline. Apple scented, worked fine.
Have also used it (baby shampoo) a number of times on my Cockatoo when she's done something weird... and gotten herself dirty.

Dawn dish soap does remove oil and grease well that's why it is the dish soap we buy as hubby works on machinery at work and engines at home. That is also why they use it for cleaning wild animals and birds that get caught up in oil spills. I am not sure though if dye free is preferred with birds or not. We also used it on a kitten that jumped into a bucket of oil, that by the way was a ridiculous mess of both the cat and the garage.
