I was cleaning rabbit cages and one of my rabbits "Ruby" had white gel type stuff in her drop pan, what is this? There was multiple spots of it... I have noticed her not eating all of her food, i feed Blue Bonnet feed straight pellets.

Usually i just get clear gel and give lots of hay to get rid of it, but i have never seen white gel, i have treated her for vent disease (I wouldn't think its from that though, she's been clear from it for two months) Please if anyone knows, help me! She's a Netherland Dwarf.

I have only seen clear gel also. Have you tried giving your rabbit benebac or another probiotic to help get her gut flora back in balance? We tried Bluebonnet feed once and besides our rabbits not liking it as much we had an issue with bags that had moldy pellets in them...after two trips to the feed store and more moldy bags we switched to Purina.

Usually a clear gel type substance accompanied with a rabbits feces, will be a digestive problem from mucoid enteritis.

If it is a thick creamy or pasty white substance, it could be bladder sludge from calcium buildup in the bladder. It will usually be gritty as well. When the build up is significant, this usually requires treatment by a rabbit savvy vet and possible flushing of the bladder under GA. Switching to a low calcium diet, increasing fluids(by sub q or low calcium veg), as well as increased activity to keep the bladder contents churned up for better expression when urinating, is necessary to help prevent future calcium build up in the bladder. If it isn't thick or gritty but is just whitish urine or a bit chalky when the urine dries, that is normal calcium excretion.

If it looks more like thick white pus, that means there is an infection of some sort, possibly bladder or uterine infection, which would be extremely serious and need immediate treatment with the correct antibiotic to clear up the infection. If it is a uterine infection, spaying may be necessary to remove the infection, though it is possible a long enough course of the correct antibiotic could clear it up as well.

If she isn't eating well, she's likely in some pain, either from bladder sludge and/or a bladder/uterine infection, and she will need pain meds and other appropriate medication/treatment. She may also need to be syringe fed daily depending on how much her appetite is being affected. I would suggest having her seen by a rabbit savvy vet right away.

:yeahthat:
It's hard to tell what it is without seeing what it looks like, but if she is eating less as well (what about hay? vegetables? pellets is really a secondary concern as rabbits should eat very little pellets anyway) it's enough to warrant a visit to the vet.

It looks a lot like white puss. Unfortunately i do not have the money to take her to a vet.

Long over due update. Turned out she was a old little bunny and had a urinary infection, it was cleared up with antibiotics and she found a new forever home. :)
