Hello! I wanted to share my experieance and ask a question. How high is the Risk for rabbit to have another stroke after having one? And is the Risk decreasing AS the time goes by? Now my story. I have a rabbit female 18 months old she had a perfect health but I started to read different forums and I read that spayed rabbit has better health and longer lifetime. So I decided to spay or neutur my rabbit (dont know which is the right tearm since english is not my first language). First mistake DONT EVER FAST YOUR RABBIT BEFORE SURGARY!!! the vet told me to do so I did. After the surgary I had to sryinge feed her. But she is so strong and such a fighter and she started to eat no her own. 2nd mistake ASK YOUR VET TO GIVE YOUR RABBIT PAIN KILLERS RABBITS DO NOT TAKE PAIN WELL!!! My VET didnt give US anything so at 4 in the morning I had to call another VET to get medication for pain. On the 3rd day after surgary when I took a deep breath for the first time since the surgary and thought everything is going to be OK now my rabbit suddenly had a stroke. After taking her to a really good rabbit specialist vet she concluded that the stroke was caused by anastetics. She Said that there is a Risk of having a stroke after a surgary - this is not Said On a Lot of forums and I would like for everyone to know that so they know the risks before the surgary because if I had known I would never had spayed my rabbit. Now it has been 3 days after the stroke and she seems to recover. She is eating On her own but I still sryinge feed her critical care since she does not drink a Lot On her own. I am still very stressed out because the doctor Said that there is Risk of having another stroke I have not left her side since the surgary she is under my watch all the time. She starts to move more and her coordination gets better every day her head was not tilted anymore On the 2nd day after stroke. I can see that her right eye is not reacting AS WELL AS the left one but her reaction is improving too. I know that there is a long way ahead to recover and I love her very much as the way she is. I just want to know what are the chances of her surviving and would she have a long life? My heart skips a beat everytime I hear her move and I am so scared for her and I enjoy every minute I spend with her AS it would be her last. So ir anyone has any experieance with rabbit stroke I would love to hear YOUR story andit would really help me. I understand that each rabbit is different and only God knows what will happen but I would like to know the odds.

I don't have any personal experience with this, but it sounds horrible :(

I can't offer any advice really, but I'm sure that someone here can.

I hope your girl gets better soon, she sounds like a fighter :)

Its just been 3days but she is a fighter and I can see the improvement every day. I will keep posting On her recovery hopefully my story will never be helpful to anyone and everyones rabbits will be healthy and happy.

because if I had known I would never had spayed my rabbit.

This is a VERY bad attitude to have. Spaying has many health benefits for your rabbit including reducing the risk of reproductive cancers from 99% to 0% and increasing their natural lifespan by around 50%.

I'm sorry that your rabbit had complications but you can't allow that to be the reason you don't take the proper steps to ensure the health of any future buns you may take in. You obviously took her to a vet that wasn't educated in rabbits, and I hate to be that guy, but therefore it is partially your fault. Never take any animal to a veterinarian you aren't sure about and DO YOUR RESEARCH before you take them in for any procedure.

I would see about getting the vet to refund your spaying fee and covering any further expenses caused due to their malpractice.
